At the foot of the grand Colombier (Tour de France 2016), 12 miles from the lac du Bourget, an hour from Geneva and Lyon, our gîte is ideally situated for fans of sport ( road cycling, VTT, water-sports, walking, Fly fishing, horse riding...),nature and Wine tasting.
In a beautiful undiscovered part of France the gîte has 2 double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, sauna and private pool with a view.

It was an historic cottage in a small residential village located between a number of regions we wished to explore.

We absolutely loved Gite de La Forge. The countryside is completely unspoilt and the view from the pool was breathtaking. There were butterflies, bees and dragonflies during the day and swallows and swifts diving on the pool. There is no light pollution at all and, at night, we would take a drink out to sit by the pool. The stars and night sky were spectacular and the bats kept us company as well. The Gite was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. Our hosts were wonderful. Very friendly and quick to respond to any queries we had. The village is really well placed for sight-seeing around the area. Chanaz, Annecy and Châtillon are well worth a visit and a drive up The Columbiere is a must … if nothing else but to look at the cyclists and think .., “How?!!!” I would love to go back and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Gite de La Forge. Thank you Sarah and Claude and we hope to see you in the future. Paul and Nic

Quaint village house perfectly placed for visiting stunning local scenery and sights. Gite was very comfortable and the owners, Sarah and Claude, were very friendly and helpful. All this helped to make it a wonderful holiday. The weather was pretty good too!

This house is the perfect place to base yourself to explore the surrounding area. Although the village it is in is very quiet and has no restaurants there are amazing places to eat a short car journey away. The surrounding countryside is incredibly beautiful and the house has a pool with a breathtaking view. There is lots to do in the area and we did some great wine tasting. The hosts are very communicative and helpful with local recommendations.

As advertised, with lovely touches to welcome us from wine to sweets! Beds were comfy, showers powerful and hot, pool was very welcome on a hot week. Sarah and Claude, the hosts next door were unobtrusive but welcoming and helpful and Poppy dog was a delight (sorry Freddie barked at her so much)!

Lovely rental property near Virieu le Grand in the southern Bugey, an area we know quite well. Two very spacious en suite bedrooms upstairs with an open plan downstairs with an efficient wood (pellet) burning stove. The property is within a courtyard of a larger house where Sarah and Claude live and who were great hosts. A number of walks directly from the house and great region for cycling, including along the ViaRhone and through the vineyards. We definitely hope to return.

Very nice stay at this property. There are a lot of things to do in the area, also with children (an dogs ;) ) the owners gave us very good restaurant and activitie recommandations. We had a great time at le gite de la forge and would definitely come back one day.

Clean, cosy, quiet and views to die for!! Total relaxation, just what we needed. Hosts on hand, friendly and polite, but not intrusive. Great ideas given for trips. Myself, husband and 13 year old daughter were however very happy just lazing around the pool!!

This gite is really well equipped and has a pool with the most stunning view! Sarah and Claude are brilliant hosts who are on hand for any help and advice you may need. There is lots to do in the area- we visited Lyon, Annecy, Chambery and Geneva and all were easily accessible. There is excellent wine tasting locally , boat hire on Lac du Bourget and fresh water swimming in a local lake. We highly recommend this gite .

Finished our week long stay in St Martin de Bavel and must commend the owners on making our experience so pleasurable. Very accommodating and knowledgable regarding the local area, we took their advice and visited a couple of local must sees. For us, having young children, the pool was great and provided hours of entertainment. A very relaxing stay- thank you both.

Away from it all

Property as advertised. Sarah and Claude are very welcoming and give a lot of information of what to do in the area, about the little village itself, and are available for anything you need. We were 3 adults so we asked for the couch to sleep on in one of the bedrooms to be transferred to the ground floor. They accommodated us right away. However this extra couch is a bit small, so it is more fitting for a child or an adult not too tall. Pool is clean with a beautiful view. It is deep - which was ok for us because we like to swim.

This quaint & traditional French Property, set in a lovely small French village, was ideal for a quiet getaway. The property itself was traditional, but with a swimming pool and sauna. It was superbly located for leisurely walks along country lanes, but also allowed for some great days out. Lovely hosts, who live in the property next door. Would thoroughly recommend.

Everything about our stay at La Gite de Forge was perfect. The accomodation is spacious , extremely well fitted out and very comfortable. Sarah was wonderful, ensuring that we had everything we needed and providing us with lots of useful advice and tips. The weather was a little chilly but the stove and central heating kept us very warm. The scenery in the area is stunning and we enjoyed some lovely drives. One particular highlight was an amazing dinner at Les Morainieres.

One of the best holidays we have had. Lovely gite, lovely village. Perfect location for travelling to stunning locations. Sarah and Claude bent over backwards to make sure we had a brilliant time, couldn't have asked for better hosts. Will definitely be going back next year. Recommend the Belvedere restaurant, local wine tasting, lac de Bourget, Annecy, Grande columbier. Definitely Sarah's cooking, superb. Wish we could have stayed another week.

The Gite more than lived up to our expectations. It was beautiful and well kitted out. Sarah and Claude were lovely and very helpful. The chilled bottle of fizz waiting for us on arrival was very welcome. The area is great for walking and cycling with lots of cols to climb. Will definitely be back as there was so much more to see.

The gite has everything needed for the perfect holiday. The two en suite bedrooms are spacious and beautifully fitted out. The downstairs living accommodation is tastefully furnished and the kitchen area is very well equipped. The two outside terraces and swimming pool are delightful, and the hospitality shown by Sarah and Claude is wondeful! The whole area is beautiful with many places to explore. A brilliant holiday!!!

We, family of 4, really enjoyed our stay at the gite de la forge (Oct/Nov 2017). Rooms are in excellent condition and it's very easy to feal like home very fast. The fireplace is very nice and convinient to use. The landlady was very friendly and helpfull with regards to the gite and tips for site visits. Barbeque is available - even parking wasn't a problem at all. One little stain on the shiny blanket: The Sauna is quite weak (only 57°C) - maybe I was expeting to much here :-) However, we would definitly recomment to book the gite to our friends.

Absolutely superb

Absolutely superb

It was our first time driving in France. Despite the distance every inch was worth the journey. The accommodation was excellent, the views were stunning and our hosts, Sarah & Claude, were so welcoming. Sarah in particular not only has a vast knowledge of the area she is also a very good cook. Nothing was too much trouble, even accompanying us to the vet to make sure we were understood. Thank you to all the family.
