About this cottage rental
Set under the Preseli Hills, Y Bwthyn is a beautifully converted old stone and slate-roofed barn situated well off the road in a tranquil countryside setting. Numerous tiny windows frame glimpses of the 6-acre garden in which it is set – a garden which is so lovely it has been featured in magazines and on television. Inside, there is a wood burning stove and a counter-weighted stair to access the sleeping loft, and the cottage is filled with books and paintings. There isn’t a television so you can enjoy a few days being blissfully disconnected from the stresses and strains of the rest of the world. All around you wildlife, historic monuments, standing stones and cliff-top walks abound. National Geographic has named Pembrokeshire the second best coastline in the world and it is not hard to see why. Quiet and comfortable, this cottage is nothing short of idyllic.
Bed linen and bath towels are NOT included - we kindly request that you bring your own sheets (suitable for a king-size bed), bath towels & beach towels. Hand towels, showers mats & tea towels are provided.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome; there is a charge of £10 per dog per stay and a maximum of 2 dogs.
The cottage is NOT suitable for toddlers due to the steep, open-tread stairs and woodburning stove.
Electricity and unlimited logs for the wood burner are included all year round.

This wonderful cottage was perfect for my three day retreat. The weather was cold, wet and windy but after a days walking and exploring the coast path, it was a treat to return to this cosy sanctuary tucked into the hillside in a beautiful garden. The cottage had everything I needed to make this a perfect stay. Thank you.

Beautiful quaint little property. A welcome change from the general pace of life. We spent a fantastic week in this beautiful cottage, Christina who owns the property was the perfect host. There was plenty of room for our dog to run around in the outside and even though it was November it was clear that the gardens were amazing. We hope to go back again soon when the weather is better.Thank you Christina for making us so welcome we really appreciate it.

Christina's cottage is a small but wonderfully cosy place nested in some of the most stunning gardens you will ever see. Christina was extremely welcoming and hospitable.
We loved staying here - is ideal for couples, and is perfectly located a stones throw from fishguard and newport and the best of rural pembrokeshire

This wonderful place wraps its arms around you … restful, soothing and at the same time inspiring. It is amazing how Christina and David have extended their love and care for the environment into their care for the people who visit. So many magical surprises … the Welsh Harp recital in the garden, visits into the cottage by robin and pygmy shrew and a course, the garden library. A perfect place to put cares and griefs aside and reconnect nature.

The sleeping area was a challenge!

We had a lovely few days away in this quaint little cottage, listening to the birds and overlooking the spectacular garden. We had some inclement weather, so didn’t get get outside quite as much as we would have liked, but the wood burner made the cottage so warm and cosy it was a pleasure staying in.

Ideal for location for gardeners and plant lovers with over 6 acres to explore. The cottage is big enough for two, the hosts are friendly and it’s well located for all of North Pembs. We visited Cardigan and St Davids and most places in between without wasting too much travelling time. We both enjoyed our stay, as did our dog!

Thank you so much for the most peaceful and perfect stay in your beautiful cottage.
Christina and David were perfect hosts and I cannot thank them enough for the help they gave us when a storm hit and we were unable to travel home.
The cottage is warm, comfortable and most of all provides a tranquil and welcoming atmosphere.
Their local knowledge is also amazing. Perfect hosts in the most perfect setting. Thank you.

Idyllic retreat
Idyllic retreat
I found this little place by accident and am so thankful l did. Cosy, very comfortable, full of interest, beautifully equipped and spotlessly clean, the delightful host Christina has thought of everything. The location feels remote and isolated, living in a garden for a week has been such a pleasure, even in winter. I wouldn't change a thing.

Quirky and peaceful stay
Quirky and peaceful stay
It is set within beautiful gardens and is very cosy with the fire. A little bit on the small side and as it is an older building it does suffer from damp. We have experienced better welcomes to a property. Bring your own supply of kitchen items, as their coffee and herbs are years out of date.
You definitely need a car to get about and it is more than a mile from the sea but there are some nice spots if you drive to them. It was a pleasant break.

My husband and I enjoyed a very relaxing, "away from it all" break at this warm, cosy, quiet, quaint cottage. It is certainly a unique property, within a beautiful garden.

'The Little Cottage' is a beautiful and peaceful haven to explore the surrounding area, beginning with the wonderful garden the cottage is set in. Christina's garden is a labour of love and a joy to walk through and around. We got so many ideas for our lown ittle garden back home. And the library is a surprising treat!!We loved exploring this part of Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion - the numerous walks are memorable - discovering the ancient oak wood of Ty-Canol, the bay and beach of Mwnt, a hidden treasure for swimming and dolphin spotting. I loved the cliff top walk back towards Dyffrin Fernant from Fishguard which has an intriguing place in military and cinematic history. The drive and walk to Llanachaer and Cwm Gwaun is a magical alternative to the drive to Newport and the north beach where we parked our car for free at low tide! Legal, too! Then there was the area's exceptional food and drink - locally caught and landed fish from Cardigan Bay at Dinas Cross, local lamb from Cardigan, amazing new cheeses - try Celtic Promise, local unpasturised washed rind, semi-soft. The cafes and restaurants all along the coast sold lovely fresh food and drink - and the people were so friendly. At the end of each quiet or busy day, come rain or shine, we felt blessed to be able to rest, prepare dinner, make up a wood fire, and slow down to a warm flickering flame of night time in the very large, very comfy mezzanine bed. Zzzzzzzzz

What a little gem! We loved our stay in the cottage at Dyffryn Fernant. A well equipped cottage with lovely wood burner to keep us cosy and set in a beautiful garden - perfect for a glass of wine in the evening, taking in the views across the valley. Stunning coastal walks nearby and trips to the beach (lots of info in the cottage about where to go and what to do). Pembrokeshire is heavenly and the cottage is the perfect base for exploring. Christina and David were welcoming to us and our dog and available if we needed help with anything. Thank you - we would stay again!

Out of a dream
Out of a dream
Christina and Richard's cottage is in one word, idyllic. Waking each morning to get wood and kindling from the shed to start a fire. Walking through the gardens that surround you. A very simple, peaceful, entirely pleasurable stay with nothing but the sounds of nature around. And anytime I needed help all I had to do was walk across the drive to their place. Very warm, friendly folks. If you want to stay someplace that doesn't have any frills, but has all of the charm and peace you could ever want, this is the place for you.

The cottage is lovely and has been tastefully designed. The kitchen is particularly well set up with lots of useful equipment and good space. The gardens are magical and the chance to have use of them from morning til night is a huge plus. In the afternoons there were a lot of visitors and the cottage is right in one of the busiest areas so if you sit out the front eating your lunch you might well feel like a museum exhibit! If that is not comfortable for you it’s a good time to get out and explore the neighbourhood!

Delightful cottage quiet peaceful and surrounded by beautiful garden yet close to amenities and coast path and other walks. Like Cornwall without the crowds, a cliche but true, coastline is stunning. We were lucky with weather so didn’t have time to work through the many books on offer. A week without TV is bliss although we did cheat and watch men’s tennis final on laptop. Highlight was an early drive to get to Skomer to see puffins.

Place of Enchantment
Place of Enchantment
This was a dream cottage and garden and was the highlight of our 2.5 weeks in the UK. The hosts, Christina and David, were warm and hospitable, the cottage was comfortable and charming, and the garden was a place of enchantment. If we return to the UK, this is where we would come. It was absolutely lovely and close to so many wonderful places to walk.
We did not have a car, but found the bus system to work well for our needs and it was on time.
If you need a place to get a way to for beauty, rejuvenation and quiet, then this is the ideal place to book.

Everything we wished for.
Everything we wished for.
A wonderful last minute break, the cottage was warm & cosy, we loved the novelty of the suspended staircase on a pulley rope with weights, the garden is beautiful & the stars at night are incredible, an emotional sight after living in the city for many years.
The coastal paths nearby are stunning, with lots of coves, & a few are easily accessible, we were blown away by the sheer ruggedness & breathtaking beauty, whatever the weather. We feel our visit to this pretty cottage & Pembrokeshire has hit the reset button for us & not forgetting Christine & David, very kind & welcoming. Thank you, Lucy & Simon

A unique opportunity to stay in beautiful gardens.
A unique opportunity to stay in beautiful gardens.
This is a cosy and comfortable cottage where it would be a pleasure to stay in almost any setting, but it has the added attraction of being in the heart of Dyffryn Fernant Gardens. It was a privilege to feel that the gardens were our home for a few days, and we could wander and explore at our leisure. Preseli Hills and the Pembrokeshire coast on the doorstep too - really very little more anyone could wish for.

A delightful cottage set in the grounds of a wonderful garden, with complete peace and quiet.
A delightful cottage set in the grounds of a wonderful garden, with complete peace and quiet.
The cottage was clean, very comfortable and well equipped. The narrow pull down stairs took a little getting used to (especially on the ‘down’ ) but were like home at the end of the week. Sitting at breakfast and eating in the evening, looking out through the doorway across the valley to the hills beyond was a recurring pleasure.
The cottage is a perfect retreat from which to explore the wonderful North Pembrokeshire coastline and the Preseli Mountains with their ancient stone circles and burial chambers of the first Neolithic farmers in Britain and the outcrops of rocks which provided the Bluestones of Stonehenge.
Being able to explore the garden at all times of the day was a privilege. Dusk walks were a favourite, with Swallows giving way to Bats over the bog garden and pond in the evening.
If lucky, at night, the sky will vividly show the constellations and Milky Way.
The only disappointment was the clammy shower curtain rather than a glass shower cubicle.

A very special place!
A very special place!
The cottage itself is a very special place. With its 'movable staircase' and the low altitude on the gallery with the double and the single bed.But everything is there. And much more...And very clean. But the undoubted highlight is the garden.Even if you are not the biggest garden lover so far you will love it.Especially when the visitors have left and you have the whole place for yourself in the morning and in the evening.Best place to enjoy a glass of wine.or two...And listen to the birds!
We already started to miss it when leaving after one week...And many thanks to our hosts Christina and David.Discreet but approachable if necessary!

We (2 adults and 1 child) stayed in the cottage for 4 nights during a cold April. The cottage is very well set up and everything is designed to make your stay easy and memorable. The wood fire oven provides enough heat even during cold nights though it was also good to have a space heater. The loft for sleeping is very comfortable and we all loved the movable staircase to get up and down. The best is then stepping out in the morning into the wonderful garden and walking around with a cup of tea enjoying the views. The owner made us feel very welcome and provide us with lots of good information about the area, the garden and things to do. Would come back anytime!

It is true photographs never lie. The images on the website lived up to what we experienced visually but what was not present in the photographs was the lovely birdsong and scent of an enchanting valley fully of wild gorse mingled with the garden's scented flowers, herbs and grasses especially in the morning dew and evening. Delightful, enchanting and peaceful.

Exploring the garden at our leisure was a joy and the peaceful break was just what we we hoping for. The hospitality and facilities were even better than expected.
