About this house rental
French Pond has a private, sandy beach area which is wonderful for swimming. The cabin is situated upon 5 acres of beautiful Adirondack Park wooded land surrounded by 13,000 acres of state land in the Western Adirondack Mountains. The West Branch of the Oswegatchie River is only 100 yards from the front door. Near the cabin are numerous ponds - French Pond, Long Pond, Round Pond, Rock Pond, Trout Pond, Clear Pond and Mud Pond which are all from 100 yards away to within two miles! A trail head for Jake's Pond can be found at the end of Long Pond Road only about 3 miles away. There are maps at the cabin for your use to personalize your own Adirondack Adventure!
Snowmobiling (or ATV-ing) from the front door with plenty of trailer parking. The cabin is located on Long Pond Road Trail with Lewis County C8 and C5 trails less than one mile down the road. All beautiful trails to anywhere in the state. An amazing 30 mile ride southeast to Stillwater Reservoir then Old Forge; north to Harrisville and Star Lake; or up into the Five Ponds wilderness that is due east on Long Pond Road. We have made Camp convenient for winter occupancy with a furnace and an optional wood stove to keep you warm. You can ride all day and come home to sit by a warm fire.
French Pond Camp was custom built by a local, master cabinet maker. Camp is two levels with an extra large, covered screened front porch leading the way to a beautiful very spacious custom kitchen with a gorgeous cherry floor dining room, two full bathrooms, laundry area, cozy-scenic living room and one bedroom completes the first level. A custom log staircase takes you to the second level with three bedrooms.
No matter what the season, every day is beautiful. The summer sun off the waters, winter all in white or the fall with its intense colors. The cabin is surrounded by huge white pines, hemlock woods and maple hardwoods for color and fragrance. The cabin is approximately fourteen miles from the Village of Croghan and right around the corner from The Buckhorn Bar & Grill.
A canoe, rowboat and kayaks are available for your enjoyment on French Pond. Plus, Camp has a wonderful sandy beach which is perfect for swimming. Enjoy a campfire by the pond at night.
We own an adjoining additional 2 acres lot with a 3 bedroom cabin (Listing#7938000) directly next to the house (60 feet apart) and a 2 bedroom cabin (Listing#3565930). See Oswegatchie ADK Cabin Retreat in Croghan, NY for details and to rent with the French Pond house - it's a great setup especially for a getaway with extended family and friends. These are separate properties but the cabins are close to each and do share the beach amenities.

This was our second stay at French Pond. So many awesome upgrades since our last stay. Hours were spent on the large screened in porch! Took severalhikes on and near the property. Love it!

The place was very accommodating. There are lots of things to do ranging from the kayaks/canoe. The dock and beach was amazing especially at night. The locals up there were very nice and informative, made our trip even better by showing us around.

Beautiful peaceful area. Lovely pond, sandy beach and kayaks. Kitchen was large and well appointed. Screened in porch also was great. Helpful responsive hosts.

We love the location and the private pond. However, the smell emanating from the living room carpet meant most of us simply could not enjoy that space (the kids didn't mind). Additionally, this year there was a definite "mousy" smell in the kitchen/dining area.
There was a significant amount of evidence of mice in the cabinets with the dishes, on the counter, and even the dining table in the mornings. We kept our food in plastic tubs/unaccessible to rodents. It is understandable, because it is the woods, but these buggers were brazen. There were plugin things meant to drive them away, but they were clearly not working.
Rainy weather meant a number of roof leaks.
The owner was responsive when we communicated. We did not bother to complain about the carpet because we had already let her know last year that it was our one concern about the property. She assured us that carpet was going to be replaced with laminate. We booked for this year and were sorely disappointed when we walked in and were met with the same odor of urine and damp (90% sure it is people pee and not dog pee).
Additionally, last year one of my kids discovered toenails behind an end table when playing hide and seek on our last day there. I vacuumed them up on our first day this year. That living room needs a deep clean!
