Was this a genuine stroke of bad luck or an organized scam?

I booked this apartment for one night and three people, informed the property we'll be arriving between 11 PM and midnight after a long drive. I got an answer that wouldn't be a problem, and how somebody will be waiting for us. Then the owner sent me a MESSAGE, just an hour before we were supposed to arrive to his property, telling me there is "a problem" with his apartment, and that we can't sleep at the property i booked, because of it. Without further explanation, he offered me a stay at another apartment, or to cancel my booking, so I can try finding my own accommodation. The thing is that the owner knew we were arriving after a five+ hour long drive, and that it was after 10 o'clock at night. How he thought I would be able to book another property for three people, within the next half an hour, and inform the owner I am arriving after 11 PM, at that time of night, is beyond me. So, having no other options, I accepted his apology and drove to the apartment he suggested. That the "replacement" property was not even remotely similar to the one I booked is an understatement. It was just an old house with one room that has 3 beds and a bathroom (which my two colleagues took), and a second room which has only a double bed in it (which I took). And, I later realised, probably wasn't meant for guests, since it had no bathroom, no TV, a terrible bed with the owner's belongings still inside. The two older ladies that greeted us were nice, but they insisted on a cash only payment, since they had no card reader, no cash register and no way to write us a requested company invoice, or even give us a receipt of payment, for that matter. I hate sounding like a conspiracy theorist, but it seemed to both my colleagues and myself, like the apartment listed, the one that I booked based on the pictures and the price, was just a way to get us there.

We were told to go to a different host.

Definitely unprofessional host. We booked a 3 room apartment and we were told to call someone else for a different apartment. In other words, we were cancelled. The host should not accept bookings if they can't be delivered. The other place was 1 room.

Good for one night transit

It was acceptable for one night due to transit for the next day. The apartment is big enough for 8 persons. The host was nice, it would be better if english would be another spoken language.

Toilet paper - almost missing No shower gel The fridge was not functional at the time of our arrival, therefore it took hours until our water got cold If you have a bigger car, you could get stuck there - google maps shows accurate fotos of the entrence

It was advertised as 3 bedroom +1 living room.. In reality there were only 2 bedrooms and 2 couches in the living room with an open space kitchen. Sleeping in the living room was inconvenient due to the refrigerator noise and other guests trips to the refrigerator or kitchen.

The host was really nice, the apartment clean, spacious and comfortable. Near the highway, so good location to stay on your journey to Greece.

Very difficult parking. On Sunday at 23.00 the truck full of wooden logs arrived and they started unloading the wood which was terribly noisy and we could not sleep. Still don't understand why they did it in the middle of the night...

Clean, spacious apartment. Well equipped and freshly renovated.

The owner wasn't home, and his dad didn't speak english at all which caused some problems. He also seemed a bit frustrated. I guess it would be a lot better if the owner was on place, at least for arrival.

Host was very nice,he recommended an excellent restaurant where we had a fabulous meal. He also called us taxi's and changed euro into dinar to pay for the taxi. Apartament was big and clean,fully equipped for our needs. Parking was safe,in interior garage with camera surveillance. I highly recommend this apartment to anyone who is transiting Serbia and needs a good night rest.

The apartment is quite spacious and comfortable. We stayed with 3 kids they got one room, we got another and one room remained free. Furniture is new, the kitchen well equipped, there are tv, wifi...all you need even for longer stay. All recommendations for a stop over.

Refrigerator was not plugged in, it would be handy that we were able to quickly refresh our drinks during summer day. The towels were a bit stale. Narrow street, away from city center.
