Heather Leigh: Dog-friendly, Central, Oceanfront Home

Great location

Thankfully, we did not experience the same pest problem someone else mentioned. Nice oceanfront home and mostly as noted in the listing. The only complaint would be that this house has a rather unusual floor plan. One of the bedrooms is awkwardly inside of another bedroom. This meant that to get into or out of this bedroom you need to pass through a bedroom. We made this work, but we were not aware this would be the situation and could see how it could be a problem for some people. None of the bedrooms have a bath attached to them, like a true master suite type of set-up. The three bedrooms are all on one side of the house and all share a standalone full bathroom. Then there is another standalone full bathroom on the opposite side of the house all by itself.

Very cute little house to relax in. it is extremely outdated and needs some love but it’s fine if you keep your expectations that it’s an old beach house. We enjoyed the porch and has a great view!

The house overall is fine, not exactly a wealth of comfort but it gets the job done. It is right on the beach and you can’t beat that but it is definitely an economical house rather than a spendy vacation house. It does have everything you need and my family and my dogs had a great time watching the sunset from the porch and being able to just step out onto the beach whenever we felt like it. Beware of the hidden fees!!!!!! And the check in process was not fully explained before we hit the road. The listing does not mention pet fees and they are definitely there. It simply says “pet friendly.” Plus there is an insurance fee or deposit which must be made in cash or certified check. We were told about the deposit and we’re ready to pay it when we arrived but got no real instructions other than that during the booking process. So we hit the road and we had the cash in hand but at 2:00pm on the day of our check in (which is at 4:00) we got a call saying we needed to drop our cash off at the office prior to 5:00 or we would not be able to check in. We live two and a half hours away. We got a late start (baby and two dogs....) but were not aware that we would literally be locked out of the house if we did not bring our crazy cash deposit to the office before they closed. Thank you for telling us about this three hours before you close for the weekend...We didn’t make it in time and had to call at 4:30 and pay the stupid insurance fee. Not a big deal but after paying almost double what I wanted to with all the other fees, I was pretty pissed. This place clearly has insurance already (and doesn’t use it because the lack of maintenance on the house is very clear, broken window blinds and faulty bath tub among other cosmetic issues) and they are trying to make the consumers pay it for them with this ridiculous deposit. Anyway I love the location and the house is perfectly fine and comfortable and right on the beach as advertised. But if I’m paying good money for a weekend then I’m renting a nicer place. The beds are uncomfortable and the bathtub doesn’t work. We were one family alone here and it was fine but multiple families or groups of friends would be very tight. Also I ended up paying over double what I expected to pay because of the added fees. Sorry.
