I had previously stayed here quite a while ago (10+ years) - long enough to have largely memory-faded and come to the hostel fresh. I would usually choose cheaper Manchester accommodation such as Hatters, but it was apparently fully booked for my dates. Though inexpensive, the hostel charged rather more than I would comfortably afford. Despite previously visiting, I found the building slightly hard to locate, as it is reached circuitously by going round the block and through a car park, and is indicated only by small meagre signage. Set by a canal wharf in the Castlefield district, it affords views of the city's urban industrial heritage, is close to the industry/science museum, and is a short walk from central Manchester. Cafe/breakfast prices seemed reasonable but I did not avail on this occasion. Staff were pleasant, unobtrusive and reasonably efficient, though it was disappointing they did not intervene when a group of loudmouth lads were repeatedly swearing in the foyer. Errors on my booking (seemingly on the part of YHA or Agoda) were fairly slow to be corrected as I checked in, creating frustrating delay. Nocturnal access to reception area was appreciated, but I was substantially inconvenienced and stressed by repeated difficulties trying to log onto wifi: a reception employee seemed genuinely surprised when I mentioned this, but it did seem to be a persistent problem. Dryers in the toilets irritatingly and wastefully came on when people merely brushed past.
