    Bare bones lodging, but great for the price. Also had access to the gym facilities. The staff were professional and very helpful, overall a delight to deal with. And the location right next to Central Park & near major subway lines was amazing and felt safe, even late at night. The residential facilities were pretty well maintained on a daily basis. But the women’s bathroom on my floor (11th) constantly had a puddle of water (which leaked from the shower) on the pathway leading to the sinks. So you constantly had to watch your steps. There was also an occasional leak from the ceiling over a toilet stall in that same bathroom. Despite reporting these issues to management, the issues persisted throughout my 10+ days there. Seemed to be a major fix was needed. Overall, felt comfortable during my stay, as it was a good place to sleep, being that I was out most of the day.

    We booked a double room as we are an older couple. We opened the door and our jaw hit the floor. There qas an old double bed that actually crunched every time we moved Other than the crunchy bed that had a sheet and an old thin blue comforter, there was an alcove to put your bags and hang a few clothes, and an old desk with a mirror. The three bathrooms on our floor were cramped and steamy as there was no air circulation. If you had to go in the middle of the night, you were lucky to find toilet paper. These toilets were down one corridor and then down another. There was a small tv in our room but no remote. Prison cells even have their own toilet. I think that it is time to renovate these rooms. We wasted so much food as there was no fridge. Surely for private rooms you can buy some small fridge units. We were not given any paper that explained where anything was in the hostel. We had to go searching for the toilets We were not told if there was a shared kitchen with a fridge. The vending machines were out of order so no cold drinks We didnt know if there was a water fountain, nothing. The girl at the reception desk when we arriived was very rude and impatient with the custers A young girl in front of us was scared to a ask her a question We tried to book in with her and she took our passports, did something on her computer and said, your room isnt ready, come back and line up after 3pm. It was 2.45pm. She could have booked us in and then told us to wait 15 minutes or would let us know when we were good to go. Do better YMCA. There is no reason for a private room to resemble a prison cell. Your cleaners need to do better also. The corners of the floor was filthy. The door made a loud scraping noise when you open and close it. It needs to be planed back so it doesnt wake the neighbourhood in the night. Overall, it was a thoroughly depressing experience We wont be back

    It was a wonderful stay. Some reviews had made me a bit uncertain about how the stay would be, but for the price and location, the stay was excellent, and the place was clean enough. Looking forward to staying in the same place whenever I visit NYC next!

    Aug 15, 2026. Broken toilet seat, shower head holder broken, water handle fallout, no shelf for soap so every one use the Floor and leave their soap on the floor. A/C in the room going full blast because the temp knob was broken. The bathroom door slammed every time people went thru it, my room was next to this men room, heard all. I checked out the next day, I had booked 8 nights here. To make this whole matter worse, the Y refused to return my unused payments: $10/night membership and the remaining accommodation fees I booked with Agoda, total over $500. I contacted Captain One and Chase to get all my refunds, all still pending investigation. So, do your self a favor unless you willing to Stay and Pay for Broken down accommodation. I called for the manager at this Y, no one call me back and they will not give me the name of the person I should speak to. Just show you how badly run this Non Profit is.
