We booked this hotel just for the beautiful scenery of Lake Towada, and we even specifically chose a lake-view room—it was really expensive. The surrounding area is very desolate: there’s no convenience store and no other attractions nearby. The front desk was extremely indifferent. My friend asked for a bottle of water, but was refused and told that only guests on the first day of check-in get one. Since we’ve had great experiences with other hotels that include meals, we had very high expectations for dinner. But it was far from filling, the lighting was dim, and the food was really disappointing in terms of taste. The room did provide pour-over coffee equipment, but it was broken. When we tried to ask the front desk to replace it, they said they didn’t have extra ones—so we ended up using the coffee equipment from our friends’ room just to make do and barely manage to drink the pour-over coffee. There were tons of bugs. When we tried to go see the lake, we were surrounded by tens of thousands of dragonflies, along with other large insects. If you’re afraid of insects, you should be careful. Because of the bugs, we didn’t dare to use the outdoor hot spring. And even worse, we even had to pay the hot spring tax the next day, even though we couldn’t use the hot spring—felt pretty unfair. The room itself was very old. The faucets were the kind where you have to turn both the hot and cold taps to wash your hands, and the toilet was tiny. When someone uses the toilet, their body is basically pressed against the door, which is very uncomfortable. The only thing worth praising was the breakfast the next day. The scheduled Japanese set meal was just so-so, but the buffet items were fresh, tasty, and featured local specialties.

This property is perfect for a weekend getaway but is really isolated. Pros: - location is perfect, right at Lake Towada - staff is friendly and efficient - open air onsen with beautiful views - spacious rooms with all the amenities Cons: - bad connectivity to public commute - no restaurant or convenience store nearby - lunch and dinner is buffet only and is expensive, 10,000 yen pp per meal

Beautiful garden and lake view. However, the property is located quite far away from other amenities and eating places so it’s best to select the half board option. There is no lunch at the property. The rooms are small, quite dated, and sound-proofing is poor. We could not sleep well due to frequent noise of flushing toilets and showering from other rooms. The toilet in the room is really small with the toilet bowl blocking half of the toilet entrance. The onsen comprises only one outdoor pool and is quite dated with limited amenities. The dinner is good but a bit pricey.
