The location of this hotel is very charming and we enjoyed walking about hunting for ruins and making acquaintances with farm animals on the trail. What i have a pet peeve with is that everything you want to do - besides walking the trails and hanging about the grounds is payable! I understand if one needs to book and pay for the use of sauna, hot tubs, but to have to pay to rent bicycle or canoe, i think is a bit much. Other similar places we've stayed usually have bikes their guests and use, or even row boats or canoes. This to me is strangel. The staff were ok but not very friendly looking. Being the first point of contact, it would be nice to have friendlier seeming staff.
The wait staff at dinner wasn't the best either on converying correct information regarding the meals. On their website, it clearly stated that all dinners starting june 1 had to be the pre-set course meals and no ala-carte. So when i asked for the 4 course meal set but with a vegetarian or fish option, the waitress said that was not possible. But luckily the website was wrong and we were able to order ala carte. which worked out better. maybe they should update the info on the website as it is confusing. Did we enjoy our stay. Yes, it was relaxing. Would we come back? likely not. I think being a hotel like this, being super calculative with guests by charging extra for everything is not the way to make people feel like returning to stay again. The dinner was delicious so the kitchen knows what it is doing, which is a big plus. maybe just come for meals.
