    We stayed for 3 nights. there was not enough parking space so we had to park across the road for 2 nights. The cupsle coffee maker was great bonus.

    Absolutely loved it there the staff some of the best people you will ever meet we cannot wait until this time next year to do it all over again thanks for making our trip to the naki so awesome.

    We stayed at The Devon Hotel in New Plymouth on 31st June night. We arrived after completing a challenging hike in rainy weather so we were understandably wet, muddy, and tired. Unfortunately, our experience started on a disappointing note. Upon arrival, the receptionist, Kaz, did not offer a warm welcome. In fact, she did not acknowledge or greet us until we initiated the conversation. It felt as though we were being judged based on our appearance after the hike rather than welcomed as paying guests. We had booked an upstairs Queen Studio but instead we were assigned Room 833 in the basement which featured an accessible bathroom. We were told that this was an upgrade to a larger room, but our preferences were never discussed or checked beforehand. The room had a strong bleach smell and a dark, unpleasant atmosphere that made us feel uncomfortable immediately. While we understand the importance of providing accessible accommodation for guests who require it, neither of us has a disability and we were surprised to be assigned an accessible room without being consulted or asked. We then had to request another room and were eventually moved to Room 854 which was the room type we had originally booked. While the second room was satisfactory, the inconvenience and poor first impression had already affected our stay. We specifically chose this hotel to relax and recover after a physically demanding hike. Instead, we were left feeling emotionally drained due to the lack of hospitality and the way our concerns were handled. The receptionist appeared rushed and mentioned being very busy, but guests should not have to bear the consequences of staff workload. Overall, our experience was disappointing. Good customer service begins with making guests feel welcome and valued, regardless of how they look when they arrive. Sadly, this was not our experience at your hotel. Based on this stay, we would not recommend this hotel to others.
