The Ava Hotel Paso Robles, Curio Collection by Hilton

This location was perfect for wine tasting. It’s a great place with parking right there and a very friendly staff. Our room was beautiful and the whole facility was very clean. It was a prime location for a visit to Paso Robles. We look forward to returning!

Beautiful hotel in the best location for anything in Paso Robles

The hotel itself is brand new, with beautiful interiors and very friendly staff at first impression. Unfortunately, the service experience left me really disappointed. When I checked in, I asked two simple questions: whether slippers could be sent to the room, and where breakfast would be served. The front desk told me slippers were already in the room (they weren’t) and that breakfast would be at the bistro in the lobby. They even double-checked my booking and confirmed breakfast was included. Once in the room, not only were there no slippers, but there were also no robes. I called the front desk and was told they’d get back to me about slippers, no one ever did. I had to sort that out myself. The next morning at the bistro, the process was even more confusing. It’s an order-at-the-counter setup, so I asked how it works since my booking included breakfast. The cashier just told me to “order whatever, it will be added to the room,” which sounded more like a charge than an inclusion. She didn’t seem sure and wasn’t interested in helping clarify. I went back to the front desk, where they also didn’t know and had to check with a manager. The final answer I got was “just order whatever you want.” It already felt disorganized, but I went along with it. After checkout, my boyfriend received a bill for all the breakfasts we ordered, with only a small daily discount applied. This meant the “breakfast included” package we paid for actually left us paying more than if we had just ordered breakfast directly. We called them twice for a refund but still haven’t been able to get it because the staff doesn’t have “authority to process the refund”. Other small but telling issues: there was no Do Not Disturb door sign in our room, even though I saw other rooms had them. And during our stay, the elevator broke down, forcing us to use the staff elevator and walk through housekeeping storage, something that felt unprofessional and out of place for a hotel experience. In hindsight, I think we really checked in too early, just one day after their grand opening, and the operations simply weren’t ready for guests. Overall: This hotel has great potential because of the new facilities and friendly front-line staff, but the service operations are a complete mess. Breakfast arrangements were messy, small details were missing, and the basics weren’t ready. Unless management gets their act together, I cannot recommend staying here despite how nice the property looks.
