I booked a single night stay. I was given a room at the far end of the hotel and entered to find a partially dressed man in "my" room. He immediately jumped up and said NOT AGAIN! I quickly backed out into the hallway, mortified. I was the second person who had randomly entered his room. His wife was away at the front desk explaining that the room was dirty and they needed to change rooms. There was no cell service, so the gentleman allowed me to come inside and call the front desk. They said someone would come down with a new key for me. When his wife returned she told me there were no other rooms and they would be leaving because the room was so dirty their young child was only permitted to lay on their own towels. When no one arrived with new keys for me, I called the desk again. They said they didn't see anyone in the hall so they left. I called the desk again, and asked to speak with a manager. I was told there were none on the property. The family was packing and visibly upset to have their 4th of July plans ruined and cut short. I called the desk attendant again and asked them to please give the family a comp for dinner for their trouble. He said he had no authority, but said he could give them a snack from the concession stand. I asked about my new room and was told someone would come down again with a key. I asked for a breakfast voucher and I was given one. I also asked how was it that I would get a another room but the family wouldn't and they said it was their choice to leave. I asked why the room simply couldn't be cleaned and I was told it was after 4:00pm on a Friday and there was no one the property to clean rooms. I was taken to a room farther away and even more inaccessible. I went out for the evening and when I returned I discovered the TV didn't work. I went to sleep and in the morning discovered the coffee machine in the room also didn't work. I called the front desk and let them know the coffee machine was broken. Someone immediately came down and gave me a handful of coffee pods. I explained I have coffee pods but not a working machine. A little while later he came back and plugged in a brand new machine. I went to make coffee and realized the pods were not compatible, no coffee. I packed my bag and went up to the front desk with the coffee pot and pods and showed them the issue. They apologized and I told them about my 14 hour experience at the hotel. The gentleman at the desk stated that he was the manager, he was on the property the evening before and was aware of my room issue and the treatment of the quests in my original room. I told him that my experience was terrible and he said he would waive the "resort" fee. I went to the other side of the property to the "Biddle Mansion", for a standard fare breakfast but at least had coffee. Yes, it is a beautiful property but that's it. The two rooms I saw could be found in any highway hotel, the breakfast served at any highway hotel. The staff I did interact with were understanding and polite but the institutional mismanagement were beyond their abilities. I should have been offered a full refund. Considering all that transpired, waiving the resort fee was an insult. It was $300 a night. If I had known they were so unconcerned about their guests I would not have stayed there. Stay somewhere else and save yourself the aggravation.

For the money we paid, even discounted through Agoda, we were disappointed. First room -- no service had been done on it (it was 8pm when we checked in). At the desk to get this figured out, another customer was having the exact same problem. Offered a different room. This one had windows that opened to a view of an enclosed air conditioning vent. It also had no towels. And no air conditioning. And the lock didn't work, so someone had to give us a physical key to the deadbolt, and activate the a/c from somewhere else in the building. Having said all this, the person who checked us in and heard all our complaints was an absolutely stand-up person (I didn't get her name and I should have). There were way too many problems for a destination of this quality, but she handled all of them without blinking and with a cheery smile throughout.

I was very surprised at how poorly run the facility was. I arrived in the morning for a conference, and gave my number at the desk where they said they would text me when my room was ready. No text ever came. There were cigarette butts in planters, which in a well-run facility would be removed immediately. Lunch was chaotic and our group was one of several groups smashed together into one space. We had a reception after our corporate event, and we were placed in a room next to a wedding reception, which required us to go back and forth through the wedding party. Which was odd. A friend had a bag of garbage left outside her door, which she asked to be removed, and it took several requests. When I left, I asked for a receipt to be emailed to me. It has yet to arrive almost a week later. I have sent three follow up emails asking for it, and have not gotten it. Decent value for the money, since it is pretty cheap, but I got the sense that whoever was running it has abandoned that effort and left it to poorly-trained underlings. I would not return. Nor would I recommend it.
