Swiss Residence Hotel- Kandy

We had a very pleasant stay. The hotel was clean and comfortable, and the staff were exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. Their excellent service made our visit even more enjoyable. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would be happy to stay here again.

Unfortunately we only had 1 night, as this property was amazing, the staff were very attentive, and would totally recommend staying here.we ate dinner which was great and breakfast was an option of english or Srilankan.

I recently stayed in a **Double Room** at **Swiss Residence Hotel, Kandy**, and I wanted to share my experience with the sincere hope that it contributes positively to the future of this iconic property. Swiss Residence has always held a special place in my heart. During my school days, I remember looking across the hills of Kandy and seeing this beautiful building standing proudly among the lush greenery. Back in the early 2000s, whenever people spoke about premium hotels in Kandy, Swiss Residence was one of the first names that came to mind. It was a landmark a hotel associated with elegance, prestige, and unforgettable views. Sadly, my recent stay left me feeling that the hotel has drifted away from the standards that once made it so special. I cannot say whether this is due to the management, the ownership, or a combination of both, but the property's current condition simply does not reflect the strength of its brand or its remarkable potential. What I Loved 1. Rooms – 10/10 This was undoubtedly the highlight of my stay. The room was spacious, exceptionally clean, comfortable, and well maintained. Housekeeping deserves full credit for providing a pleasant environment. Considering the price I paid, I felt the room itself offered excellent value for money. 2. Outstanding Staff Member – *** I would especially like to recognize ***, who was courteous, professional, patient, and genuinely helpful throughout my stay. Every hospitality business needs employees like him. His attitude reflects what true hospitality should look like, and I sincerely hope the management recognizes and values team members like ***. 3. Where the Hotel Falls Short Unfortunately, while the rooms exceeded my expectations, almost everything outside the room told a different story. ### Maintenance Needs Immediate Attention The biggest issue is the overall maintenance of the property. The hotel has beautiful architecture and breathtaking views, but both are overshadowed by visible signs of neglect. Some examples include: * Elevators that look old and poorly maintained. * Broken floor tiles in public areas. * Aging furniture throughout the hotel. * Public spaces that no longer reflect the elegance expected from a hotel carrying such a respected name. There is absolutely nothing wrong with preserving classic furniture or maintaining a heritage atmosphere. In fact, many luxury hotels around the world successfully embrace their history. However, older furniture and facilities must be properly restored and maintained to create a premium guest experience. ### Restaurant & Breakfast The breakfast buffet was fairly average. What disappointed me most wasn't the food itself but the overall dining atmosphere. The restaurant enjoys one of the most stunning panoramic views in Kandy, yet the experience doesn't match the setting. The tablecloths and napkins appeared old and heavily worn. Some were so frayed that loose fibers came off while being used. These small details significantly influence a guest's perception of cleanliness, quality, and professionalism. The setting deserves much better. ### Pool Experience After a late check in, I wanted to relax by the swimming pool before the day ended. Unfortunately, there was no staff member available around the pool area. I requested a pool towel, and a staff member assured me that one would be brought shortly. I waited for over an hour. The towel never arrived not even before I checked out the following day. As a result, I couldn't enjoy the swimming pool at all, which was disappointing because it was one of the facilities I had specifically planned to use during my stay. ## Conversations I Overheard On **24 July**, the hotel appeared to be fully occupied. While walking back to the reception, I overheard several guests expressing disappointment about their stay. During breakfast, I also witnessed a local couple openly arguing about choosing this hotel.
