We loved our stay at Sounkyo Hotel Kumori. It is perfectly located 3 minutes’ walk from the bus station (we took a 2h bus ride from Asahikawa), 2 minutes from the ropeway station, and 1 minute from the convenience store. The interior is beautifully designed, with a billiard room, a modern dining room, a bar lounge and of course their onsens with natural hot spring water. Our room was spacious and clean, and there was a laundry room on our floor. Dinner and breakfast were amazing. There were complimentary after-dinner fruit liqueurs which you make yourself in the bar lounge, one of the highlights of our stay! The staff are super helpful and friendly too!

I booked this hotel as a a treat after a stressful few months at work which is to say it was outside of my usual price range. Therefore I had slightly higher standards for what amenities and facilities this hotel would have available at their price point.
The staff were absolutely wonderful and incredibly professional and welcoming.
The hotel also provided welcome drinks every day (tea during the day and liqueurs during the evening). The onsen was also very nice and relaxing and even had a bar where you could make your own bath salts!
Where I was slightly disappointed was my room. I was surprised to discover that my room had no shower and a bit of a strange odor to it. Additionally the only toiletry that was provided was a toothbrush. None of these were particularly bothersome but for the price they were charging I would have expected more amenities
I enjoyed the traditional tatami mat experience and breakfast was DELICIOUS.
If you are staying in Sounkyo area book both breakfast and dinner with the hotel - there are no restaurants in the area.

A nice spacious futon room, just quite incomprehensible why they put frosted glass in the windows to block the view on such beautiful surroundings.
Breakfast is a set Japanese one.
There is a onsen, but I'd recommend to go to the public one, which is much nicer with an open air section on the top floor.
Otherwise very friendly with nice little attentions like free tea and liqueurs in the very pleasant common room.

Overall a good stay, need to set up beds yourself, no bidet wash. But staffs are very friendly and helpful.
