Never used a hostel before and was really surprised how fantastic it was in such a great location

improvement "I feel compelled to write this review to highlight the stark contrast between the housekeeping staff and the reception service at this hostel. First and foremost, the housekeeping team here is absolutely world-class—the best I have encountered anywhere in the UK. I am genuinely in awe of their dedication and professionalism. Every single day, without fail, they work with a level of precision and consistency that is truly inspiring. They follow a strict routine and pay meticulous attention to the smallest details, ensuring the hostel remains spotless. Their work ethic is so commendable that it has actually become a source of inspiration for me during my travels. They deserve the highest praise and recognition. However, I find the performance of the reception team quite questionable. While the housekeeping staff provides an unparalleled level of care, the reception service does not seem to align with that standard, leaving me with many doubts regarding their efficiency and management. To conclude, if you value a impeccably clean and well-maintained environment, the housekeeping team here is second to none. But for the management and front-desk operations, there is significant room for improvement. I truly hope the management realizes that they have an incredible asset in their housekeeping team and works to bring the rest of the hostel’s operations up to that same high standard."

there is a sign that says historical building so they cant install air conditioning. good excuse. BUT there is no excuse to install a shi**y fan instead. charge premium price but cant afford a proper wall fan. disappointing

I stayed here as a solo traveller and unfortunately, my experience before arriving left me feeling quite uneasy. After making my booking through Agoda, I received multiple WhatsApp messages from different phone numbers asking me to confirm my stay by providing my credit card details, despite my booking already being fully paid. The messages included my name and exact stay dates, which was very concerning. I don't know how my booking information was obtained, but it left me feeling unsafe travelling alone. I contacted Agoda and even requested to cancel my non-refundable booking because of these security concerns, but the property never responded to Agoda's request, so I decided to stay anyway. When I told the receptionist that I had received these messages and that, as a solo traveller, they had made me feel unsafe, the response was simply that they were aware of the issue and that I should "just ignore the messages." I felt that my concerns weren't taken seriously at all, especially given that the messages contained my personal booking information. The room itself was fine, but the hallways were extremely dark, even during the day. I had to use my phone's torch to find my way. The lift was out of service for two of my three days, which was inconvenient. The soundproofing also wasn't great—I could hear creaking floorboards from neighbouring rooms, doors constantly slamming, and other noise throughout my stay. Overall, while the room itself was acceptable, it's definitely not worth the money. The security concerns before arrival, the lack of response to my cancellation request, and the dismissive handling of my concerns at reception left me with a poor overall impression. I hope the property investigates how guests' booking details are being used in these scams and takes future guests' concerns more seriously.
