Sidewalk Boutique Hotel

I stayed at Sidewalk Boutique Hotel on Koh Samet for two nights, and unfortunately, the overall experience was quite disappointing for the price of around ***. The room was extremely basic, and several aspects of the facilities and room design made the stay unnecessarily inconvenient. 1. Unreliable electricity and inconvenient key card system The room door uses a traditional physical key, and the electricity is activated by inserting a key card into a slot. However, the power did not come on reliably when I inserted the card. I had to repeatedly insert and remove the card before the electricity would work, and at first, I thought the system was broken. Although it eventually worked on some occasions, the electricity also went out unexpectedly once during my stay. I am not sure whether the power interruption was related to the key card system, but the overall experience was inconvenient and unreliable. 2. No light switches next to the bed There were no light switches within reach of the bed. Every night, I had to walk back to the entrance to turn off the lights before going to sleep. This was inconvenient and reflects poor room design. A light switch next to the bed should be a basic feature. 3. Extremely small washbasin with no hot water The bathroom washbasin was very small, with almost no space to place toiletries or other personal items. Only cold water was available at the sink, making the bathroom facilities less practical than expected. 4. Broken hairdryer The hairdryer in my room was broken and did not work. Unfortunately, I only discovered this after taking a shower and washing my hair at night, leaving me without a working hairdryer when I needed one. Basic amenities should be checked and maintained before guests check in. 5. Unpleasant smell from the bed or pillows One of my biggest concerns was an unpleasant smell coming from the bed or pillows. This made me question whether the bedding had been properly refreshed and left me feeling uncomfortable about its cleanliness. Fresh, clean-smelling bedding is a basic expectation for any hotel. Overall, the room felt poorly maintained, and the facilities were inconvenient in several ways. I understand that this is a budget hotel and do not expect luxury at this price point. However, there is a difference between a simple room and one where basic amenities do not function properly or the bedding does not smell fresh. For around ***, I expected a more comfortable and better-maintained room. Unfortunately, the experience fell short of my expectations, and I would not choose to stay here again. I hope the hotel takes these issues seriously and improves its room maintenance, electrical reliability, facilities, and bedding hygiene.

The hotel is in a great location, right on the main street and within walking distance of the pier and Sai Kaew Beach. The room was good for the price, with a comfortable bed, good air conditioning, a hot shower, a fridge, and a hairdryer. The kettle didn’t work at first, but the staff were very helpful and quickly replaced it. Overall, I had a good stay and would definitely recommend this hotel, especially if you’re looking for a convenient location at a reasonable price.

Better off in a hostel. Hard to sleep with noise from outside especially the traffic. Service isn’t great.
