We had a fantastic weekend stay at the Shimoda Prince Hotel. Every room features a stunning ocean view, and the location right on the beach is hard to beat—complete with convenient rinsing areas and changing rooms. In addition to the beach, the pool was a huge hit, especially the inflatable slides for kids that my girls absolutely loved. The highlight for the adults was definitely the ocean-view onsen, which offers relaxing panoramic sights of the beach while you soak. To top it all off, the breakfast buffet was fantastic with a huge variety of delicious options. While the hotel is a bit older and could use some minor cosmetic updates, the "bones" are great, rooms are spacious, and the overall experience was wonderful. Highly recommended for a relaxing family coastal getaway!

Best time staying here, great surf friendly facilities to surf on high tide

The hotel is right next to the sea, so the views are beautiful. The common onsen bath is spacious and has a great view overlooking the sea. I went 2–3 times a day during my stay, and it was never too crowded, which made it very relaxing. The room is spacious for two people, with a comfortable Western-style bed and a traditional Japanese tatami area with a tea space. There is enough room to do some yoga or stretching as well. The bed was comfortable, and one of my favorite things was being able to fall asleep while listening to the sound of the sea breeze. Overall, it was a very relaxing stay. You can do surfing at the sea everyday with just walking distance.
