The Shilla Seoul remains one of my favorites since its opening in my 40+ years of travels, and the Shilla Monogram did not disappoint.
I had a 1-week stay in Feb-2026 at the ‘Hotel’; an overnight stay at the ‘Residence’ last month in July.
> What the ‘Hotel’ & the ‘Residence’ offer:
•Spacious room & comfortable bed & bedding
•The ‘Hotel’ rooms a bit larger (higher rates, 10-15% maybe?)
•The ‘Residence’ rooms tho smaller than the ‘Hotel’ rooms, larger than an ‘average Seoul hotel room’ and have little kitchenettes (basic but adequate enough) even in standard rooms, w/ sink, microwave, large refrigerator; good for families
•Beautiful location & view
•Balcony in every room; watching the sunrise was a special treat!
•Excellent facilities—pool, sauna, gym & spa offering various treatments
•Warm hospitality & top-notch service provided by staff eager to help!
•Excellent breakfast & dinner buffet at the ‘Hotel’; didn’t try the Residence’
•Tried 3 restaurants at ‘the Grove’ on the hotel grounds and found them to be very good, and obviously convenient
I was disappointed at having to leave after only one night this time but look forward to my next trip.
I would highly recommend both the ‘Hotel’ and the Residence’ to anyone visiting Gangneung!

The hotel has beautiful scenery and offers a pleasant environment. However, after returning home I discovered that the swimming pool fee had been charged twice.
From September 14 onward, I contacted the hotel several times via email, website, and phone. While staff responded, the replies were repetitive and the issue did not progress. I was asked to provide bank records, and eventually advised to consult my credit card issuer directly.
Although the stay itself was comfortable, the follow-up process was time-consuming and frustrating. For international guests, I believe the hotel could improve by handling billing issues more efficiently and providing clearer support, so that visitors can focus on enjoying their vacation.
