Shahriston

We had a wonderful experience at Shahriston Hotel. The excellent location made it easy to explore beautiful Bukhara, and the hotel offered a comfortable stay with a good breakfast. A special thank you to Bobur and Bakhodirjon, who were incredibly helpful and attentive throughout our stay. Their warm hospitality made us feel comfortable and truly welcome. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Bukhara!

Stayed 3 nights. Good location. Large rooms. Good breakfast No AC in foyer so it was little hot in the foyer on 30C+ days. Unable to enjoy the large foyer with seats. Downside: room didn't get cleaned - due to no door card . I requested front desk to organise room to be cleaned in the morning . Cleaners came at 4pm when we were back in the room so it would be inconvenient as we had got back into the room to cool down from the heat. We happened to be staying during the Silk and Spices Festival period which was good to be part of. This also caused road closures and prevented taxis from pick up nearby. Walked 1.2km to meet my self organised airport transfer. I had asked the front desk about where to catch a taxi and they had not informed me or were not aware of the road blocks.

This hotel cost more than all my other accomodation in Uzbekistan put together but I thought we would book a suite for a little luxury and pampering in their Hammam and expected to have equivalent service but was very disappointed. Hardly any response to questions about our arrival and did not inform us that there is no vehicular access or give us any tips on where to tell the taxi to go to. We arrived past midnight and the taxi could not find its way to the hotel and dropped us off in a dodgy back alley and told us to walk to the end of it - we had to drag our suitcases over cobble stones in the dark, it turned out to be a dead end. Finally bumbled our way through after a few wrong turns in the dark. It is easier in the daylight once you know that you actually have to cut through a Toki to get there. I noticed that the hotel next door sent an electric buggy to fetch their new guests and luggage. We had booked a suite and another room and requested that they are on the same floor. However, receptionist did not know of this and said that he could move us only the next morning. Fridge did not work - asked 3 times for assistance and receptionist came but did nothing. We finally found that someone had unplugged it. Bathroom very large but inconvenient hanging space. Suite had tiny windows and a glass door that we always had to cover with a curtain because everyone walking down the corridor could look in. NO balcony attached to the suite. Very large, enough for an extra bed in it but not an option. Breakfast buffet was very generous, everything you could think of even ice cream ( melted and icey) good table service for coffee and it is on the roof with a fantastic view of Bukhara. Breakfast staff were polite and professional. Receptionist was useless with requests like helping to book a show. Hammam was a shock. We booked with a receptionist and asked for a female masseuse for me and male ones for husband and son. However, a male masseuse came and took me to another room and asked me to strip and was about to start scrubbing me!!! I had to ask for a lady masseuse again. Lady masseuse used silicone gloves to cursorily scrub and cheap shampoo on my hair, then plastic scoops and buckets to throw water on me. She also left the door open into the common changing area, as she was feeling hot, meaning I was exposed to any men in the locker room!! Massage was cursory and did nothing for my aching muscles. It was a stressful and disconcerting experience. Don't expect a Bali spa experience!
