First, the outer banks are lovely, as are the staff at The Sanderling. Lord knows they have to deal with some high maintenance guests in the high season lol. We paid about *** a night and given that price point here are some amenities that are missing and things to improve: in room coffee that isn’t instant/a punch you soak in hot water, a minibar, a weird smell in the hallways and room (like mildew), no covered walkways from one building to the next (it was raining the week I was there and getting a hot coffee from the lobby meant getting soaked), room needed minor repairs too. None of these things is really a big deal and I wouldn’t mention them if I was paying ***-***a night so maybe just go in shoulder or off season. Also! If you get an ocean view room you’ll be in a building overlooking the family pool so just know that your beautiful view may come with the sounds of children playing a pool. Still, I do want to say the staff are great. Super friendly and attentive.

I surprised my wife with a stay here for our 10th anniversary! I’m so glad we did. The staff was so helpful and kind and helped me set up the room special for my bride. We had a peaceful stay, whether it was the pool, the beach, the restaurants— we did it all. No complaints from us at all. The room was clean, the staff was thoughtful, and the food was great. We will be back.
