Puffin Hotel Vik

Room very basic, more like a hostel. Price of over *** unrealistic.

We enjoyed our stay. Staff was very helpful

Me and my families stay in this hotel was very good. There was some problems, that we didn’t have enough rooms for 6 people, (2 adults, 20yr, 2 teenagers, and 12yr), but after that it was quite amazing. We had a great view from upstairs, and my 3 sons, (teenagers, and 20yr), had downstairs. Was great stay and wish we could’ve stayed longer. We only stayed 1 night.

We stayed here for one night while visiting Vík. The room was clean and the location is convenient, but overall we were disappointed given the price. One issue we encountered right away was finding the hotel. We booked the property as Puffin Hotel Vík, but the signage outside the building said “Vík Inn.” There was no clear sign for Puffin Hotel, which made it confusing to locate upon arrival. The heating situation was surprising for a hotel in Iceland. The room was cold when we arrived, and we were told the primary heat source was underfloor heating. There was also a portable space heater in the room, which felt like an odd solution in a country known for its cold weather. We expected a more comfortable and reliable heating setup. There is also a switch near the entrance that appears to control power to the room outlets and lights. It was not labeled, which made it confusing to figure out. The walls are very thin. We could clearly hear conversations and noise from neighboring rooms, making it difficult to relax. Reviews mentioning poor soundproofing were accurate in our experience. At times, it felt more like staying in a guesthouse or dorm-style accommodation than a hotel. One thing to note for travelers with larger suitcases: there is no elevator, so you may need to carry your luggage up the stairs if your room is on the second floor. While the building only has two floors, this is worth keeping in mind. Breakfast is served until 9:30 a.m., which felt a bit early compared with many hotels catering to travelers on vacation. We understand that accommodations in Vík are expensive due to the location, but for the price we paid, we expected significantly better value and comfort. The property uses self check-in, and guests receive a code and instructions for room access the day before arrival. The hotel served its purpose as a place to sleep for the night, but we would likely choose a different property on a future visit.
