I booked two, double queen bed adjoining rooms for one night for my son’s 17th birthday. It was only one night and thank goodness because if it had been a minute longer we would have left. Upon our arrival, check in was slow. We got to our adjoining rooms (after traveling through a maze of halls that all look the same) and found that our rooms were very dirty. Something (possible bug) bit me while I was playing on one of the beds with my 4 year old and one of the toilets was completely full and splattered with poop. We requested a new set of adjoining rooms because one room was my son and his birthday party friends and the other side was myself, my husband, and our 4 year old. We received a new set of rooms (not adjoining) but near each other. We were so frustrated by how much time had already been wasted on hotel stuff and our son & his friends wanted to swim. So we didn’t complain about the room situation as we thought we would swim first. The Polynesian boasts 2 pools. But it only has 1. And it’s not a pool but rather a water park like area with a smaller kid play area, a hot tub, and then a larger pool area that 2 water slides connect to and then it turns into a lazy River. My son, his friends, and our daughter love to swim and we’re so excited to get to the swim area. Only it was also inaccessible. The small child play area had water temperature that could easily completely numb someone’s body if you stood in it for longer than 5 min. It was colder than a backyard hose! My daughter and I are not sensitive to water temperatures but we couldn’t bare to even wade around in the ankle deep area. It was freezing! My son and his friends went down the water slide once and had the Sam experience. The water was irresponsibly cold for anyone to be playing in. The only area that was reasonably accessible was the hot tub. Which was filled with small children and families (due to the rest of the pool area being freezing). We witnessed several unsupervised children swimming in the hot tub. One little girl was filling a squirt gun with water from her mouth and spraying it all over in the hot tub. Once I noticed this I immediately got myself and daughter out of the water. Myself and my entire family were promised (and paid for) pool areas for our kids to play and The Polynesian DID NOT provide this. Between the polar plunge temperature and the unsupervised/unsanitary hot tub - we had nothing. We got back up to our (not adjoining rooms) and our keys didn’t work. I went down to request new keys and the front desk women thought I was asking for a room change. When I asked why she would think that she said “sometimes we have bugs. So I thought you were changing rooms because of that.” Disgusted, she gave me back my keys for us to get into our rooms. At that point I would have left. But my son begged for us to be able to stay as it was his birthday gift and he didn’t want it all to ruining his day. We scanned the rooms cloth materials for any sign of bugs. We found stained sheets, dirty walls, furniture that was falling apart, but no sign of bugs in the new space. However, we all agreed to not use the blankets or go under the covers as they were not clean. Luckily, we had all brought some blankets from home, so we were able to cover ourselves. We slept on the beds but never moved the covers. We left asap the next morning. Also, keep in mind that the halls of the entire place smell like diapers/marijuana/garbage and there was garbage and wet towels on every floor - all over the floor. I seriously wouldn’t stay at this hotel again if you paid me. The one thing I will say is that the front desk staff was very nice. Slow… but nice. We stayed here for his birthday because years ago, my son used to come to The Polynesian with his best friend for his birthday. Since then, they have destroyed the second pool, torn down the arcade, and the entire place smells and appears to have been abandoned.
