Mohlabetsi Safari Lodge

I had the pleasure of staying at Mohlabetsi Safari Lodge for 4 nights over New Year’s, and it was an unforgettable experience. The rate of 325 Euros per night included full board and two game drives daily, which was excellent value for the incredible service and experience offered. From the moment I arrived, the hospitality was outstanding. I was personally picked up at the airport by Chade, the manager, and greeted at the lodge by Kiti and Jo with fresh towels, a welcome drink, and a tour of the lodge. Despite arriving after lunch hours, a delicious meal was provided, followed by an exciting first game drive. The food was a highlight of the stay. Breakfast offered a choice of eggs, fresh-cut fruit beautifully presented, juice, coffee, tea, and cheese. Lunch and dinner were both three-course meals made from high-quality ingredients, thoughtfully arranged and presented. Every meal was a delight and reflected the lodge’s attention to detail. As a solo traveler, I was touched by the Guides' thoughtful hosting during dinner. They kept me company at just the right level—engaging in friendly conversation and sharing their stories without being intrusive. Special thanks to Sam, James, and Lucky for making the evenings so enjoyable and memorable. The safari experience was exceptional. I was often the only guest on the vehicle, as the management ensures personalized experiences and doesn’t overcrowd vehicles—even when guest numbers are low. My guide, James, a Level 1 Guide, demonstrated solid knowledge, high motivation, and an unwavering commitment to safety. He went above and beyond to make every drive memorable, ensuring we had great sightings while maintaining a focus on hospitality, from sundowners to breaks. The lodge staff were warm, approachable, and brought the perfect balance of privacy and friendly interaction. A special highlight was the intimate New Year’s dinner with only 5 guests at the lodge, where the staff joined us for a delightful evening of dining, singing, and dancing. The accommodations were comfortable and thoughtfully maintained. Rooms were clean, with a turn-down service and screened daily for insects. Cooled water was refilled twice a day. While there was no kettle or tea in the room, beverages were easily ordered at reasonable prices from the lovely common area, which featured a cozy library and a small souvenir shop. The outdoor shower was a unique and safe experience. The lodge’s safari vehicles were top-notch: clean, reliable, and equipped with water, blankets, ponchos, and seat pockets for cameras and gear. Every detail was considered for comfort and convenience. Four nights was the perfect duration to fully enjoy the lodge and its surroundings. Between game drives, I appreciated the refreshing plunge pool where water was always provided without needing to ask. Thank you to the amazing staff (special thanks to Chade, Janco, Henriette, Sam, James, Lucky, and everyone else) for the warm laughs, unforgettable moments, and outstanding service. Mohlabetsi Safari Lodge is a gem, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone seeking an authentic and luxurious safari experience.
