Millennium Hotel Durham

I did not get the king size bed that I requested and paid for on Agoda so ended up with two double beds instead so that ticked me off. She didn't say that she didn't have any king rooms but said she was running low on them, which made me think that because I purchased my room through a booking site for a great price that she wasn't inclined to put me in a king room and chose to save them for the folks that perhaps paid full price. The room was also an ADA room which was fine because I did have more space in the bathroom. I didn't get to explore much inside the hotel except for the free breakfast which was mid. They had hot foods on the breakfast buffet but the scrambled eggs were a bit runny, they no longer serve bacon but had sausage links which I don't care for and they just looked strange to me. They did have a Belgian waffle maker. It was decent but I didn't care for the syrup but I'm a snob when it comes to syrup. It just felt a bit low level to me. They did have bread for you to make toast and bagels that you could also toast. There was cream cheese, butter spread, jellies, ketchup and yogurt. All the yogurt was the same flavor which was weird. There was no fruit - I was expecting to see some bananas and apples or oranges but there was nothing. I didn't drink any of the coffee or tea so I can't speak to that. I also don't eat grits but they did have those on the buffet. They had red diced potatoes on the bar that were either baked or boiled, they definitely were not fried which I would have preferred. Nothing was seasoned so you have to use salt and pepper to give it some flavor. I did not eat dinner so I can't speak to what the menu was like. I did walk down to the indoor pool and it was like a sauna in there. I don't know how anyone could have enjoyed being in the pool but there seemed to be a fair amount of people and families that used it. There was a Jacuzzi in the room next to the pool and it was even hotter in there. It looks like they could have possibly opened up a door to get a little cross breeze to come through so I'm not sure why they didn't. And the few adults that I did see coming from the pool complain that it was too hot to really enjoy it. Which makes sense because there was all this humidity in the room and it just looked very basic because it wasn't set up nicely with the chairs for you to sit and watch the kids play. Again it was very humid and stuffy...more than any indoor pool that I've been to. For what I paid it was decent and I probably would go there again if I could get a good deal but I definitely would not pay full price.

We had a wonderful room, the staff were kind and helpful. It was very clean and room looked well maintained, however the building is old and you can tell from halls and elevator. Nothing bad just that aged hotel vibe. I would definitely stay here again. The location is perfect for staying in Durham. Will say if we didn’t have breakfast vouchers the breakfast bar is not anywhere close to an $11 value. Incredibly limited continental.

The Millennium is an old school hotel. It has a certain faded elegance that we love. The price of a room has gotten to be more than we usually spend but otherwise there is nothing that we do not like about the Millennium. The staff is wonderful, the facilities are excellent although there are often things out of order... ice machines, the hot tub, etc. The rooms are clean, the location is great, and the breakfast is good (although a little pricey).

For the price you cant beat this place. Don't expect glam and glitz just a nice bed to sleep in.
