I stayed at the Menger Hotel for three nights in mid-July 2026, and unfortunately, it was the worst hotel experience I’ve had in a very long time. I had stayed at the Menger about 20 years ago and was looking forward to returning because of its incredible history and unbeatable location next to the Alamo. Sadly, it feels like the hotel has barely changed in two decades and is in desperate need of a complete refresh. The biggest disappointment was the lack of service. Despite requesting housekeeping three separate times, my room was never cleaned. When I called to ask for fresh towels, I was hung up on twice before finishing my request. My room also had no Wi-Fi access. I was instructed to call an 800 number for technical support, which I did, while also notifying the front desk three different times. The issue was never resolved. It also appeared that the hotel was severely understaffed. During my stay, I rarely saw anyone cleaning the property, and it showed. Dust had accumulated so thickly on some surfaces that someone had actually written their name in it by. The same small pieces of paper remained on the hallway floor and stairways for all three nights, suggesting the area was never vacuumed. To make matters worse, the elevator closest to my room was out of service the entire time, and I never saw any indication that repairs were being made. The Menger Hotel is a true San Antonio landmark with tremendous character and one of the best locations in the city. It deserves better than its current condition. I sincerely hope someone invests in restoring both the property and the level of service before more guests leave as disappointed as I did. It would be a shame to see such an iconic hotel lose its reputation because of issues that are clearly preventable.

we had a great time at the Menger, everything about the Menger was great, nostalgic! great for those looking for that. we stayed in the original part of the Menger, it was a great stay. the Alamo was next door, and the mall also, and the river walk! with its restaurants and shops too! wonderful, we hope to stay there again, we never get tired of San Antonio, we've been going there for 27 years

The staff was very friendly and I would say it was worth it for the price, but not really because of surge pricing due to the Fourth of July weekend. My bathroom was a little bit questionable and the bathtub took forever to drain so I was up to my ankles and water whenever I shower showered, but other than that, I would recommend. Also, the lobby sometimes smelled like pee due to the homeless, but the staff can’t really control that.
