Dated Interior design and furniture. Refurbishment needed. Staffs needed more training from front desk reception to the host at the restaurant for Breakfast in term of International 4 stars hotel standard. When arrived at the hotel around 12.15pm, first thing the front desk reception said to us was "Check-In only allow at 3pm" He didn't even check if the room is ready or not where other hotels normally do (this include hotels under Melia International Hotels that I have stayed before). We left our luggage there and came back around 2.30pm and managed to get to our room. Room - When we were in our room, the AC control, TV was not working and the bathroom shower glass door was off the rail where it was hung on to. Report to reception, a couple of minutes later, the AC automatically turn on itself and a lady staff came to fix the TV. But the shower door can't be fix as no maintenance staff on weekend so was changed to another room. Facility - Had to pay extra 15Euros per person to use the Pool. That's a joke as I have stayed in other 4 stars hotels and never had to pay to use the Pool. The 2 Lifts were so slow and seems lack of maintenance. Breakfast - Breakfast selection was okay. Coffee machine needed to be upgraded. Tasted really bad. Juices from machine tasted like sugar syrups. Location - Good location. 10 mins to the Aveiro Station and 10 mins to the Shopping Mall. 15 mins to the town centre. There is another 4 stars hotel - Turim Aveiro Hotel right at the town centre. Better location compare to Melia Ria. Overall - Compare to other 4 stars hotel, Melia Ria just ticked the very basic boxes to have the 4 star rating. It gave me the impression of a 3 stars hotel.

A really nice hotel very close to the train station and close to the canalside making it perfect for walks. The room itself was spacious and clean, with a wonderful set of Rituals soaps.
