On a fiercely hot August day, I began to understand something about the architecture of Hoi An: it does not fight the climate. It negotiates with it. The yellow walls receive the tropical sun boldly, while layers of vegetation soften its intensity. Banana leaves, frangipani, palms and water become more than decoration. Together they form a small microclimate, filtering heat, glare and movement. And suddenly, the heat feels less aggressive. The hotel itself is modest in scale. Against the broad Thu Bon River, it almost disappears. Yet this difference in scale is precisely what makes the relationship so beautiful: a compact human space leaning against an immense landscape. There is very little land to waste here. So instead of creating a large garden, the building turns inward around a swimming pool. Architecturally, this central void does far more than provide a place to swim. It behaves almost like a traditional courtyard or water court: bringing light into the interior, creating visual depth, allowing rooms to open toward greenery and water, and giving the entire building room to breathe. The luxury here is not square footage. It is air, light, water and proportion. I particularly love the rhythm between enclosure and openness. The building feels intimate without becoming claustrophobic. Rooms are small, corridors narrow, courtyards compact, yet windows and doors are generous. Every limited space seems to borrow something from somewhere else: a view of the pool, a slice of sky, a tree, a balcony, or the river beyond. It is architecture that understands a beautiful paradox: you do not always need more space. Sometimes you simply need to make a small space feel connected to something larger. Inside my room, the same language continues. There is little furniture, but the openings are large. Light enters generously. The breeze from the river becomes part of the room itself. The black timber-like frames are especially effective. Against Hoi An's saturated yellow, they provide visual discipline and depth. The curved openings soften that darkness, turning something structural into something almost ornamental. Nothing is excessively elaborate. Yet nothing feels accidental. Even the pendant lamp beside the bed has a certain confidence. In a small room, one carefully chosen object becomes more powerful than ten decorative ones. Perhaps that is another lesson Hoi An quietly teaches about luxury: richness does not come from adding more. It comes from knowing what not to add. The restaurant shifts into deep red and black. The palette is heavier, more intimate, almost theatrical. It evokes another Hoi An, the old trading port shaped over centuries by merchants, travelers and cultural exchanges. That is why Hoi An occasionally reminds me of Venice. Not because the two cities look alike, but because both reveal what happens when water becomes part of the architecture of everyday life. Streets, buildings, commerce, climate and human movement begin to organize themselves around water. And perhaps that is what touched me most here. From this little hotel, I can take a boat along the river or ride a bicycle slowly into the Ancient Town. But architecture has already told me the story before I leave. The yellow walls speak of sun. The vegetation speaks of shade. The courtyard speaks of ventilation. The wide doors speak of the river breeze. The dark frames speak of restraint. And the water quietly connects everything. I came here thinking I had chosen a small, reasonably priced hotel by the Thu Bon River. Instead, I found a tiny lesson in architecture: A building does not have to dominate its surroundings to possess character. Sometimes the most beautiful architecture simply knows where it belongs. It opens a window to the wind. Leaves a courtyard for the sky. Places water where the heat is strongest. And allows the river to finish what the architect began. That, perhaps, is the architectural soul of Hoi An that I fel

Recently renovated and attention to detail in the room decor and is awesome. Only slight downside is the breakfast (included in rate) is not spectacular, but quite adequate in quality and freshness. It is a little away from Old Town area but I used Grab motorbike and the cost was less than USD$1.00

Booked the river/ lake view room and once you get there you get a view of the concrete jungle. If the room you booked is not available then say its not available so we can book something else somewhere else.
