Laureles Selection Suites

Lovely room and good hospitality but the hotel has a few problems when we visited. First, upon checking in, we were charged an additional 8,000 COP per person per night which was not disclosed before. I was lied to and told that this was a tax, "impuesto", when in fact this is an arbitrary insurance charged by the hotel with no option to reject it. I was told the insurance would cover "anything that might happen to the room during our stay", I have no clue what that means or entails or covers, but I was obligated to pay for it anyways. I was also lied to when I was told, if we smoked in the room the sprinklers for the entire building would go off. This is not how fire sprinklers work, but I will assume this was either ignorance or an attempt to scare people away from doing it. The building lacks a proper fire egress path. The bottom of the stairwell leads to a construction site and there's a risk of people getting trapped in an emergency. Also, the dispatcher or someone on the radio made a rude remark about us over the radio to the cleaning ladies after we declined having our room cleaned. There's also no security for the building. This is not standard for Medellin and the location. Due to the lack of security, sometimes we came back to the front door to the lobby locked, and we had to wait for the lobby staff to return to open it for us. Otherwise, it's a nice room in a relatively good location.
