Ah, Lagom Bắc Hà Farmstay — where the hills are alive with the sound of karaoke… until 3 AM… on full volume… outside your hut. Let me begin on a positive note: the location is stunning. Absolutely perfect. If peace, nature, and isolation are what you’re after, this is the place. Unfortunately, once you arrive, the “lagom” (meaning “just the right amount” in Swedish) philosophy seems to have been applied to food, service, and basic hospitality — though very, very sparingly. Upon arrival, famished from travel and excited for a rustic culinary experience, we were presented with the full menu: rice… and egg. That’s it. Michelin star vibes, if the Michelin guide covered gas station snacks in remote mountain outposts. Just when we thought things couldn’t get more “authentic,” a boisterous group of partygoers arrived and began what can only be described as an endurance karaoke marathon. I’m all for cultural immersion, but after six hours of off-key Vietnamese ballads blasting through the valley, I began to question many of my life choices — chief among them: booking this farmstay. As we retreated to our charming little hut — cozy, if you ignore the army of wasps that had made it their Airbnb — I informed the manager. His solution? A shrug and wise advice: “Don’t touch them.” Thank you, Master Yoda. Morning came, somehow (miraculously, without sleep or a wasp sting), and it was time for our included breakfast. We were lovingly served instant noodle soup — the kind you can buy for 5,000 VND at any corner shop. I asked for coffee and water — a bold move, I now realize — only to be told, flatly, that they had none. I guess water is a luxury item now. In conclusion: if you’re seeking a peaceful retreat, culinary adventure, or a wasp-free environment — highly recommend not staying here. But if you’re a fan of midnight karaoke, malnourishment, and unexpected insect roommates… well, this place is a five-star rollercoaster of regret.

WC are outside the rooms. You need to climb down the stairs and walk a distance to reach the WC. It can be difficult to some elderly people especially during rainy day.

We only stayed one night but I wish it was longer. We stayed in the small bungalows and they were fantastic: clean, comfortable beds, charming. The farmstay is located around 20 or so minutes from Bac Ha, not the easiest to get to, but worth the effort! Travelers with a preference for western food should note the food caters more to the local market. This means noodle soup for breakfast, so if you want something else you may need to bring it with you. Loved our stay here and would definitely Come back!
