Major problems occurred during my stay. One morning I heard drilling starting between 8-9am outside my room. I went outside and a man was cutting some wood with a tool. I complained to the receptionist as to why they were doing repairs so early in the morning. Then at 12.30am in the night I heard people banging on doors and shouting for 20 minutes outside my room. I phone down to the night watchman and asked him to investigate. I thought it was people trying to break into a room and arguing with the occupants. The nightwatchman asked me for my room number. I went back to bed but then suddenly I heard my door buzz open. I had turned the night latch for extra security but someone then barged the door, flipping the night latch open. I panicked as I thought it was people trying to break into my room. Then the night watch man came into my room and apologised saying that some guests had a problem getting into their room because the door was stuck. He thought my door might also have been affected and so he opened my door to see whether my door worked! This was totally unacceptable that I should have been frightened in that way. The next morning I mentioned it to the receptionist. He said that the problem with the door opposite me had now been fixed. I said that I did not know whether it was the door opposite or another door. He then told me that he had now checked all the other doors and they were OK. Then the next morning I heard the same noises of people banging on doors. I went outside and the receptionist was talking with one of the guests who had a problem with their door. So, the problems with the doors had not been fixed as the receptionist had said. I talked to the receptionist again and he said there was a problem with 3 of the doors probably caused by the work that the workman had been doing. I asked to move to another room. He said that he could not move me that day but if I asked in the morning of the next day then he would arrange. I then asked the next morning but he then said that as it was after 11am, he could not change the room that day. This did not make sense because after 11am guests would have checked out and so rooms would then be free. Also, why did he not tell me the day before to ask before 11am. I therefore had to wait another day to change rooms. The next day he agreed to move me to another room. Also, very disappointing was the restaurant. They had a restaurant which served both Italian and Indian food. But during my stay they had decided to close the Italian menu for several days, except for pizza. The full Indian menu was available. This was very disappointing. The hotel had an Italian name (Taormina is a town in Sicily) but they chose to close the Italian menu. The hotel is Indian managed which explains why they chose to keep the Indian restaurant fully open. So, I decided to try the Indian menu. I had two courses and the food was not fresh at all. I tried some fish fritters and instead of being firm the fritters fell apart and tasted almost tasteless. The same thing with the main course. You could tell that this was food that had been kept for days before being prepared. Also, it was served warm rather than hot. We thought that we would have a dessert which would make up for the very disappointing starter and main course. But the waiter told us that they were closing and so there were no desserts available anymore. I then looked across the restaurant and there was two other Indian guests who were busy eating their starter or main course. They could have served us some dessert in the time that these other guests were finishing their course. The restaurant was huge but every time I looked inside it was either empty or had one or two guests. Another disappointment is that when we finished our starters they left the same dirty knives and forks on our table for us to eat the main course with. In 99.99% of restaurants they would have given us new cutlery. It doesn’t cost anything for them to do that an

I booked a one-night stay because this hotel is near my office and I needed to work on site 2 days in a row. The rom was spacious, had a desk and multiple light sources and a private bathroom with shower. There is a very interesting dining offer around: the attached restaurants (indian and italian), a highly reviewed sushi place and a frituur. My only low point was the cleaning. The room was clean, but if by moving furniture around I found accumulated dust on the corners. Some other places had also dust, I believe the room had not been used for a while. Leaving the toom was uncomfortable, as the enclosed hallway to my room stank to cigarette smoke.

Smiling reception and bar staff, close to public transport, quick check-in/out. Some good restaurants available around. And free safe parking

The room itself was average, but the biggest issue was that there was no air conditioning or even a fan provided. In this heat, it was nearly impossible to sleep. What makes this worse is the dishonesty from the staff. First, they denied that air conditioning was ever mentioned, but when I showed them it was clearly listed under the room facilities, they changed their story and said it’s only available in a handful of rooms. This is completely misleading and unacceptable. If a hotel advertises air conditioning, every guest should receive it — not be given excuses after check-in. Very disappointing experience.
