Hotel Pacific

We have been a returning customer for many years. We love everything about Hotel Pacific. We missed the sauna since it was not working during our short stay. Nevertheless, we enjoyed ambiance, location and services.

I recently stayed at your hotel and wanted to share my feedback. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and found the hotel to be perfect for families. The junior suite was impressive—the rooms are spacious, well-furnished, and I especially loved that every room includes a deck. The proximity to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, just five minutes away, was also very convenient. While the breakfast provided was good, I would like to suggest adding a toaster for guests to use for bagels and bread. Additionally, I found the parking fees to be a bit high. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.  I will definitely be coming back. Thank you for the great stay.

The hotel was nice, clean, and centrally located for our activities. The room was spacious and provided a home like feeling with a fireplace. We were not happy with the breakfast location and the lack of enthusiasm from the front desk staff both at checking in and giving clear directions to find the breakfast location.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but after spending over $*** for one night ($*** for the room plus $22 for parking, taxes, and fees), I feel obligated to share our experience so other families know what to expect. We booked a “Luxury” King Suite with a pull-out sofa, balcony, and ADA accommodations because we were traveling with our two young children. We wanted a little extra space and thought we’d splurge for what we expected would be a nice hotel in Monterey. Unfortunately, this ended up being one of the most disappointing hotel stays we’ve ever had. The biggest issue was cleanliness. When we walked into our room, there was dog poop on the floor inside the room itself, which was shocking and unacceptable. In addition, the end tables were dirty and sticky with old drink rings on the glass. There were cobwebs throughout the room, balls of hair in the blankets, and the ice bucket tongs looked like someone had eaten Chinese food with them and simply put them back without washing them. The balcony was also filthy, covered with leaves and debris, making it feel like it hadn’t been cleaned in quite some time. The room itself had several maintenance issues as well. The toilet handle barely worked and often wouldn’t flush the toilet. The air conditioning did not work at all, which made the room uncomfortably warm and difficult to sleep in. The bed was extremely soft and worn out, and the phone line to the front desk was so full of static that it was difficult to even make a call. For a hotel marketing itself as an upscale, luxury property, the amenities also felt dated. The TV only offered basic cable with no streaming apps or smart TV functionality. Our room (214) was tucked away in a dark corner of the property, which only added to the feeling that the hotel has been neglected. One of the most disappointing parts of our stay was the complete lack of hospitality during check-in. We were simply handed our room keys and a parking pass. There was no welcome, no explanation of the property, no mention of the Wi-Fi, breakfast hours, spa, hot tub, lobby coffee, or recommendations for the area. We weren’t asked if we had questions or what brought us to Monterey. It felt more like checking into a storage unit than a hotel that charges luxury prices. To make matters worse, the room above us had people running, stomping, and jumping beginning around 6:00 a.m., making it impossible to sleep in. We’ve stayed in our share of budget motels over the years—Super 8s, Motel 6s, roadside hotels across the country—and I’ve honestly seen cleaner rooms than what we experienced here. The difference is those places cost around $100 a night. When you’re paying over $400 for one night in Monterey, you expect a clean, comfortable, well-maintained property with welcoming service. We actually lived in Seaside for over a decade and were excited to spend a night revisiting some of our favorite places. We chose Hotel Pacific because we thought it would make the trip feel a little more special for our family. Instead, we left wishing we had saved nearly $300 and booked one of the recently renovated motels nearby. Looking back, I wish I had trusted my instincts after reading the reviews before booking. Many of them mentioned the same issues we experienced, and unfortunately our stay confirmed those concerns. The staff I spoke with on the phone while making the reservation were friendly and accommodating, so I had high hopes. Sadly, that level of service didn’t carry over to our actual stay. I genuinely wanted to love this hotel because the location is fantastic, but between the poor cleanliness, maintenance problems, lack of hospitality, and the price we paid, I simply can’t recommend it.
