Hotel Nag Pukhu

Nag Phuku is truly an experience in itself, one that starts with promise but leaves much to be desired. On the positive side, the property is visually appealing, the rooms are pretty, and the heater works exceptionally well, which is a big relief in cold weather. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. Our experience quickly turned uncomfortable upon arrival. While it’s understandable that cabs cannot reach the property directly, what was disappointing was the complete lack of assistance. My husband went to call for help with our luggage and was simply ignored, forcing us to carry everything ourselves. After check-in, we were informed that our deluxe room was on the second floor—which would have been fine if there was either an elevator or staff to help with the luggage. There was neither. During the day, the hotel runs with just three staff members, and in the evening only one staff member is present. Dinner orders stop after 8 pm, and since nearby shops also close early, guests are left with very limited options unless they plan well in advance. What was most alarming, however, was the safety aspect. The evening staff member locks the hotel and leaves at 11 pm, which means there is absolutely no staff on the property from 11 pm until around 6:30 am. The entire place remains locked, leaving guests alone and unattended overnight. For any traveler, this is deeply unsettling. Despite being aesthetically pleasing, the rooms were also noticeably dusty. Breakfast, which is usually a highlight of hotel stays, was another letdown. While a preset menu is understandable given the limited staff, the portions were extremely restrictive. We were served a single plate consisting of one slice of bread, one egg, a few pieces of banana and papaya, and two pooris with sabzi. When we politely asked for an extra poori, the staff member bluntly said no and walked away. Overall, the staff came across as indifferent and unpleasant, which significantly impacted the stay. In summary, while Nag Phuku looks good on the surface, poor service, lack of basic hospitality, safety concerns, and unwelcoming staff overshadow the aesthetics and comfort, making it a disappointing experience overall.

The location is a bit uphill about 10-15 mins from durbar square. If u go back late the street would be a bit dark. The official photos are impressive but in reality it’s not the case. Hairdryer is not available in room, and would be given a product of 80s’ if asked. The telephone line in the room is dead, so u need to get down to the reception to ask for something, but reception is deserted at 8pm. The blanket and floor feels a bit dusty. Would have paid a bit more for a hotel with better amenities and better location.

This place is super charming, with helpful staff and clean grounds. A 10 minute walk to Durbar Square, super convenient and tucked back away from the streets so it’s private and quiet.

Great stay for the value. Small hotel with new facilities and a super friendly staff, with a great location in Bhaktapur. I recommend booking the room with air conditioning, which is very comfortable. Our rate included a complimentary breakfast, which was also very well served. My only recommendation would be to improve the water heating for showers, as one day there was no hot water. Other days, we were fine.
