    What a disaster. First room we were shown to wasn’t the same as the one we’d booked, the second one had a broken toilet seat so we were given the only room left for one night and had to return to the one with the broken toilet seat once it was repaired. When we returned to the hotel on the second day after a trip out and went to our new room we were greeted by a foul disgusting smell that made it difficult to breathe. Sadly no other room to outburst in so there we stayed. Generally the staff were helpful and I felt sorry for tjrm having to deal with the crumbling hotel with electrics that did f work in room or smells or keys that’s didn’t open doors etc. The only exception was the front office manager who was defensive and rude and simply wanted to ignore the issues we were facing. She had no empathy or appreciation of how disappointing h our entire stay at this hotel was and did nothing g to rectify matters at all. So please consider other hotels in Varenna and avoid this one if you want to stay in the room you book, with no smells, functioning keys, working light switches and customer focussed management.

    Hotel Du Lac is fabulous. The staff are wonderful and attentive. The location and view from the patio is amazing. Highly recommend this property.

    The staff could not be more charming and helpful. However, the bed was soft and uncomfortable.
