Hotel Century Southern Tower

Stayed here for 3 nights while we did some shopping and dining at end of a two week trip. Great location near shinjuku station, easy access to lots of shopping and 1-2 train stirs from other areas. Had a 2 twin bed room and was roomy enough for us and our all our gear etc with a little effort to keep things organized in room. No issues here. Would stay again.

Pros: 1. Within 5 minutes walking distance of Shinjuku station which gives unmatched access by railways to all areas of Tokyo, nearby towns and beyond. Many day trips are therefore easy to plan for Yokohama, Kamakura, etc. 2. Lobby starts from the 20th floor with rooms above that. Therefore, most rooms will have a spectacular view of Tokyo skyline from morning through the night. 3. Hotel staff were polite and efficient. Checkin and checkout was smooth. Asked for some items for the room (iron with ironing board, extra pillows, coffee/sugar) - was delivered in minutes. 4. Breakfast spread is huge and breakfast restaurant also has wonderful views of the city. 5. Room were adequate though not large. Acceptable by Tokyo standards. 6. Convenience Store (7/11) , Quick bites (Shake Shack/Italian restaurant) on ground floor and Starbucks just outside the hotel building were useful "pit-stops" when required. 7. Huge shopping district within 10 -20 minutes walking distance, peaceful Shinjuku Gyoen garden to stroll in nearby and big choice of formal restaurants in the Takashimya and Isetan department store which are open till late night. 8. Shinjuku has Money changers, Gaming venues, Movie Theaters and DJ bar/Night Clubs, 3D Shinjuku Cat, Electronic/Tech/Fashion/Cosmetics Stores and Hanazono shrine which cater to every preference of tourist. All nearby. 9. Airport Bus service very close to the hotel. 10. Hotel staff and other Guests were friendly and courteous. Makes one feel comfortable. Cons: 1. It is an old hotel. I stayed there more than 15 years ago on a previous visit. Refurbishment will bring a fresh face to the interiors. 2. Hotel room amenities had coffee and mint tea. Wider choice of teas including black tea would be better. 3. Not inexpensive room rates. 4. Breakfast restaurant has limited seating. If you go later in the morning then, there is likely to be a line with waiting time to enter. Maybe an issue if you have a timed commitment in the morning to visit. Expect delays to enter breakfast room if entering late and plan accordingly. 5. Shinjuku is the 'tourist face' of Tokyo. Can feel overwhelming, flashy, crowded and overstimulating. Fortunately, the hotel is located on the southwest side of the station which is less chaotic. 6. Air conditioning in our room was slow to cool when switched on. Also, was not consistent. I felt the temperature control was somewhat uneven and fluctuationing through the course of the night. 7. Restaurants in the vicinity can be more expensive and not necessarily good due to 'tourist centered' premium of this area. Will have to research in advance to find good restaurants at reasonable prices.

it isn't the Ritz but you're saving however much more the Ritz charges.

The image shown on our booking was not the same as the one we got, so we got cheated into booking a standard room instead of panoramic. The hotel needs a major revamp, room feels tired. It always smelled like cigarettes and the AC wasnt working. We also experienced a 5.7 earth quake while in the room at 2 am, was shaking violently. Many other hotels i would probably not come back.
