I have recently checked out from Hilton Dali after a one-night stay with my family, occupying two rooms. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet the expectations associated with a Hilton-branded five-star hotel, and I would like to provide the following feedback. 1. Confusing and Inconsistent Payment Process During check-in, I was informed by the front desk that no deposit was required as I was only staying for one night with two rooms booked. I was told that any incidental charges, including room service, would be settled upon check-out. I acknowledged and accepted this arrangement. However, later that evening, I ordered room service for my parents and son. During the ordering process, I selected the option to charge the bill to the room (记到房帐). When the food was delivered, the staff requested immediate payment and informed my son that payment was required because no deposit had been collected. This contradicted the information provided during check-in. I subsequently contacted the front desk, and they apologised and confirmed that the charges could indeed be settled during check-out. This inconsistency caused unnecessary inconvenience and confusion. 2. Poor Internal Communication and Delayed Room Service On the morning of check-out, I attended the complimentary hotel photography session with my mother. At approximately 12:33pm, I ordered two beef meal sets to be delivered to Room 2605 for my father and son. I clearly informed the restaurant staff that the charges would be billed to my room and settled during check-out. Despite the staff acknowledging my instructions, at approximately 1:04pm, the hotel called my son’s room to confirm whether the food order was genuine because we were scheduled to check out at 2:00pm. I found this call unnecessary and inappropriate. The restaurant staff had already accepted the order and should have communicated internally. There was no need to disturb my family to reconfirm the order. Furthermore, the food was only delivered around 1:35pm, more than an hour after ordering and only after I made a second follow-up. 3. Disappointing Dining Experience at Yuxi Chinese Restaurant Shortly after check-in, we visited Yuxi Chinese Restaurant on Level 2. The dining experience was disappointing. * Food service was very slow. * Numerous menu items were unavailable. * The dishes served were excessively salty. * The food quality did not justify the prices charged. For a restaurant operating within a Hilton five-star hotel, the overall dining standard was far below expectations. 4. Breakfast Below Five-Star Standards The breakfast buffet was another major disappointment. While there appeared to be a reasonable variety of items, the food quality was poor and lacked flavour. As a frequent traveller, I genuinely felt that the breakfast was inferior to the breakfast offered by the first hotel we stayed at in Kunming. For an international five-star hotel brand, I expected significantly better food quality and presentation. 5. Room Maintenance and Facilities Issues Several aspects of the room also failed to meet five-star expectations: * The shower drainage was poor, causing water to accumulate on the bathroom floor during showers. * The hot water tap at the left basin was loose and could move freely. * The air-conditioning in both my room and my son’s room was ineffective. Despite being set to 18°C, the rooms remained stuffy and uncomfortable. * The rooms were fitted with standard toilet bowls without bidet functions or spray facilities, which are now common amenities in many modern luxury hotels. * The hairdryer provided was an older Philips model similar to one I personally used several years ago and did not reflect the premium standards expected of a luxury hotel. Overall Experience I chose Hilton Dali expecting a premium experience consistent with Hilton’s international reputation.
