    7.2 / 10Good·Sep 2026
Compared with other Haka Lodges I’ve stayed at, this one was quite disappointing. The location is not very convenient, especially if you arrive by InterCity bus. It’s a fairly long walk from the bus stop, and some of the intersections and sidewalks are not very suitcase-friendly. The hostel itself also feels older and more basic than other Haka properties. The facilities and the building are quite dated, and overall it feels very simple and no-frills. The good thing is that the price is relatively cheap, and most of the basic hostel facilities are still available. It’s also not particularly close to Taupo’s main attractions, so the location may not be ideal if you don’t have a car. Since I’ve stayed at other Haka Lodges before and had better experiences, I personally wouldn’t really recommend this one unless you’re mainly looking for a cheap place to stay.

The location was perfect and the facilities, including Wi-Fi and bathroom amenities, were top-notch. The rooms were spacious and impeccably clean, with attentive housekeeping staff ensuring a pleasant experience. Overall, the value for money was impressive, making this a highly recommended place to stay.

The “studio” was too small to be called a studio, it was dirty and there were insects crawling around and up the curtains. We checked out early after one night.
