Golden Hills Motel

I spent 3 nights at the Golden Hills motel was very pleased with room every thing was clean and nice looking. Thank you Len

The location is convenient - not far from the city by car. The exterior of the motel is dreadful - looks like it hasn't been renovated since it was built 50+ years ago. For check-in, the reception is never attended. It makes the place look abandoned. You have to call the manager to attend the reception. When we arrived, the manager said he would just 'check the room'. I thought that was fine and asked him if it was clean/ready when he returned, and he confirmed it was. The room was recently renovated, which we had requested and were pleased about. As soon as we walked in, my son said the room smelled bad - it was a strong food smell. Then I discovered breadcrumbs on one of the chairs and spilt takeaway in the microwave. The table was also not wiped. All of the skirting boards were thick with dust, as was the carpet behind the beds and the reverse cycle air conditioner - it had a line of dust protruding from the cover, it was so full. The walls and doors were filthy. The room also smelled of dust and I turned the heater off soon after I turned it on, even though it was a cool day – the stench was like a tired op shop. We turned the bathroom fan on for the duration of the stay, which removed the smell after 24 hours. The bathroom sink had not been cleaned and there was an orange residue around the plug hole. The shower had not been cleaned for a long time (there was an orange residue) and had an earwig at the bottom of the door. The toilet had also not been cleaned for some time and had a brown film on the bowl. The next day, I asked for our room not to be serviced, because I thought the staff might make it dirty again, after I spent over an hour cleaning it when we arrived. The fridge had only one shelf (the rest were missing) and the freezer was thick with ice. By morning, all of our food in the fridge (vegetables included) were frozen solid - what a waste of money. There were no power points near the bed heads (which had been promised in the description), and the one near the kettle could only take certain types of plugs (none with a cord running diagonally, only straight out). It was so difficult to prepare food that I gave up and we went out for several meals that I'd planned to have at the motel. I should have just spent more on accommodation and got an apartment or air bnb. There was no ironing equipment or wine glasses (as promised/pictured on Agoda). The first night, a couple arrived in the next room around 7:30pm. We could hear absolutely every word of their conversation and their tv blaring, which kept us awake for hours. They left early the next morning and woke us again. On the second night, the occupant next door was quiet, however, I did hear them clipping their nails, which shows the lack of soundproofing. On the third night, we returned from dinner out, to hear an elderly homeless woman on her mobile (she said the motel had been kind to her, allowing her to stay for free), calling every man in her contact list, asking them to come to the motel and 'keep her warm'. After about an hour of calls and several rejections, intermitted with loud music, a suitor was found. He said he would arrive in about half an hour (around 8:50pm - she had him on speakerphone). I sent a text to the manager saying I was not happy about the noise or the additional guest who had presumably not paid to stay at the motel (in addition to a list of other issues). Knowing what was about to happen, I quickly got my child to bed and to sleep so he wouldn't hear anything. Shortly after the woman’s ‘friend’ arrived, the manager knocked on my door and I explained the issue saying that the ‘friend’ was currently in the shower – I could hear everything. The manager did the right thing and said he would tell them to keep the noise down. He must have done so, because they were then quieter. The problem was that all sounds carried so much that the bathroom fan and heater I turned on to muffle the noise (which we didn’t need – it was a war

Friendly quite walking distance to the club over the road would go back

You get what you paid for. It is an old motel. Everyone is different but unfortunately for my husband and I it was not clean although linens and towels were there. The milk should be in the fridge as well as it was only left outside and was already off so we could not use it.
