Garner Hotel Londonderry - Manchester by IHG

I booked this hotel for a 5 night stay while in Derry to help my daughter with a move. The hotel looks like it is partially through an update but there is no evidience that they are going to finish it. (Mismatched paint and carpet and furniture, etc...). I checked into the room and it was freezing. The window was open and the heat was blasting but the room was about 50 degrees because it was very cold outside. There was a funky oder in the room . I was woken up at 1:30 am by the fore alarm chirping. I went down to the desk and the clerk was nice and apologetic but said I can't do anything...the maintenence staff can replace the battery in the morning. Have you ever tried to sleep with a fire alarm chirping every minute or so? She offered to switch rooms, so I accepted. She wanted me to move everything out of the room and bring the keys back down(the hotel was mostly empty). I told her because I was staying for 5 nights u had actually unpacked everything, it wasn't like I just had a change if clothes in a backpack and could i please do it early in the am...she reluctantly agreed. The second room was actually much better...no funky smell, and the thermostat in the heat unit worked great(the other room blasted cold and hot air alternately the entire time I was in the room even after closing the window). The hotel advertised a workout room, pool and hot tub. As a distance runner, that's the main reason I chose the hotel...there were other options that were less expensive . Upon checking in, I was told that the fitness room was closed for renovations...no offer for a voucher to a local gym or anything. The pool was open and I tried the hot tub one night...it was kind of luke warm...there was no way to increase the temperature . They offer a breakfast which is nice...it's not the best, but it's not the worst either. The orange juice in the juice machine has been "out of order ". They do have coffee and tea 24/7 which is great! The staff is friendly, the hotel is clean, and in the room that I got moved into after the first horrible one, there isn't a lot of road noise. This is a solid "70 or $80.00 a night hotel adequate for a short stay. It has potential if things were actually fixed and I would have been really happy if it were as advertised with the fitness center and hot tub working! As it is, I wouldn't book it again for what I paid(100.00 a night with taxes and fees). But might try them again if everything is working.
