    Our recent stay at Hotel El Coso in Valencia was an absolute disappointment. We booked the property because it was advertised as dog-friendly, only to find out upon arrival that it wasn’t. Instead, we were forced into a rundown apartment next door for an additional €35 per night, plus a pet surcharge. The apartment was in appalling condition: dusty furniture, a rusty bathtub, malfunctioning heating and shutters, and a bed with sharp, dangerous parts. The overpowering air fresheners couldn’t mask the unbearable odor. To top it off, the view was of trash containers, with garbage trucks waking us at 6 AM on Sunday. Adding insult to injury, we were required to take out the trash and wash our dishes or face extra charges—despite ending up paying more for this substandard apartment than the hotel’s advertised sea-view suite(!). We felt scammed as the property we stayed at was overpriced, misleading, and failed to meet even basic standards of cleanliness or comfort.
