DoubleTree by Hilton South Bend

The hotel is good & in good location. The only problem we didn’t like was our room is like in a connecting room so we heard the baby cry in the other room like really loud. The toilet has a problem everytime we flush it. We eat downstairs and it was really cold no heater, our food got cold right away.

As someone who travels alot, I understand hotels arent perfect, there might be a stray hair somewhere in the bathroom or the complimentary hand soap is missing, usually nothing that sways my opinion too much. This is not one of those times. Upon arrival at the hotel, I find the "main" entrance and along side it is the entrance to the parking garage. The height limit for the parking garage is five feet, eight inches. My vehicle was too tall for the garage. So I circled the block attempting to find another entrance or place to park. On the backside of the building is an open air parking deck, however theres no signage stating its for the hotel. The signage indicates its used by 1st source bank which shares the building here. I circled back around to the main entrance drop off and parked. I went inside to check in and ask where I could park. I was checked in as the front desk staff employee helped numerous guests and answered the phone all while trying to assist me. I was informed if I wanted to park here on the property it would be 15 dollars a day. I agreed to the 15 dollars a day as im by myself and unfamiliar with the city so I have no idea where the next nearest available parking would be. It was not advised ahead of time anywhere that the parking garage is only tall enough for cars, nor that even the open deck shared parking is still 15 dollars a day. Upon arriving to my room, it seemed clean and nice. Everything was staged well, nothing out of the ordinary. I departed and was out until late and when I arrived back is when the problems started to occur. Upon arriving at the open air parking deck, there was 1 spot available where I could park. I parked only to find the doors leading into the hotel locked. A sign on the door read "these doors will be locked after 6pm, guests please use roomkey for entrance". I scanned the room key only for the door to simply click and do nothing. Multiple attempts at scanning the card, trying to open the doors manually, hitting the handicap access button, nothing happened. I had to walk all the way around the block to the front entrance and tell the front desk that the rear entrance was not working. They informed me they knew and that the sign on the doors was wrong. The doors were simply locked at 6pm and you had to use a different entrance. I was told that sometimes day shift forgot to tell people that the doors were all locked at a certain time and that you would normally have to use a phone near the entrance to call the front desk to be let in. Upon arriving back to my room, nothing goes above and beyond. The shower is extremely misleading, the control shows hot and cold, however what it lacks to show is that you have to turn the handle almost a full 360 degrees before you get hot water, and then the hot water isnt even that hot, more comfortable than hot. For a hotel that costs me over 200 dollars a night, im simply astonished at my experience so far. Save your money, find a cheaper hotel. You will get the same experience or even better possibly.
