The hotel is not for everyone. Please note that if you choose an "underground" - which is a room carved or dug into the side of the hill, your room will be windowless and you might feel a bit claustrophobic. In that sense, it is not really "underground". Also, debris, dust or tiny rock chips may fall off the walls and you will find them collecting at the bottom of the walls. The room may have a musky and dusty feel. I even found fine dust deposits on my book after I returned to my room at the end of Day 1. Thus, this sort of cave-room experience is not ideal for those with respiratory conditions like asthma. During my stay, the service was also below par, and though I stayed 2 nights, the rooms were not serviced and the towels not replaced. The information sticker said the towels would only be changed if the used ones were placed on the floor of the toilet. I did as told, but still they were not changed. I had to go to Reception to request them to change the towels. Basically, no one came to service the room. The coffee/milk were also not refreshed after Day 1. This is most unusual for a hotel. The room carpet was also not vacuumed and you can feel the dust st8uck on it. Wifi/Internet was also very weak and unstable. I also had difficulty checking in after I arrived at 7.20 pm. Reception had closed. The instructions were not clear! Is this a hotel or what? I had better check-in instructions when I rented Airbnb elsewhere. The hotel also messed up my booking, and initially assigned me an "Above Ground" room even though I had booked an "Underground" room. They claimed it was a mistake of the booking system; not them. Overall, I think the whole running of the hotel and upkeep/servicing of the rooms leave very much to be desired - for the price they charged. Will never return for a repeat stay. Very disappointed. Mr Rahad at Reception was great though. He tried his best.

We stayed two nights in an underground room. The place has just been sold and the new owners not ready for the new season so our underground room was crumbling and smelt awful. BUT the other rooms were being fixed up. And after a worried first night's sleep in the smelly room we returned the next day to Al the beds in the hallway put away and everything cleaned up. Our room still needed resealing. But the others were done for the others who stayed our second night. The "Cave" makes the Desert Cave worth it. So cool with just a 30cm fan on the wall. And an afternoon nap easily had with no windows. I could have slept right thru the night (except for others slamming the hallway door). Very comfy bed and a selection of pillow thicknesses to suit everyone. Needs a blanket in the room though - Lol 35-40° outside. But otherwise perfect once the resealing is done and smell fixed. I would stay at Desert Cave Hotel again for sure. I hope I can go back to Coober Pedy one day. Loved it!
