I originally chose COMO Shambhala Estate for its beautiful architecture and serene natural setting. Unfortunately, the recent renovations have significantly damaged the original aesthetic of the property. The original rooms were elegant and full of character, but COMO failed to preserve that beauty. Simple yet important details were replaced with cheap alternatives bamboo blinds were swapped for plastic roller blinds, and the bathroom vanity was changed to low quality IKEA style laminated wood. Instead of maintaining the soul of the architecture, COMO chose to renovate, and that was a big mistake. Service is inconsistent. The front desk and butler team are warm and welcoming, which is appreciated. However, the restaurant service is clearly below standard. Staff appear unmotivated and inattentive, which greatly affects the dining experience. Housekeeping is also disappointing. Cleaning is not thorough, and bed linens are poorly arranged, which is unacceptable at this price point. While the natural environment is undeniably beautiful, this is true for most of Ubud. At this price level, there are many better options that offer stronger service, better maintenance, and a more refined experience. Overall, COMO Shambhala Estate does not deliver the quality expected for its price. I would not recommend it. If you have experienced brands like Four Seasons or Aman, you can safely skip COMO, it still falls short of true luxury.
