Appellation Healdsburg

Pretty, clean hotel, but nothing special. Felt as generic as any large chain, especially because it’s situated in a large complex with a senior living center. The standout for us was the food. And the upstairs bar is really pretty. Easy to get to Healdsburg and the nearby wineries. The rates ranged from 500-800/night when we were traveling, I would not stay there again for that price.

We recently stayed at the Appellation Healdsburg Inn and left feeling genuinely disappointed. Given the premium rates and the property’s luxury positioning, the experience fell well short of expectations. From the moment we arrived, the resort appeared noticeably understaffed, and that was reflected in the level of service throughout our stay. At nearly every touchpoint, the experience lacked the attention to detail and hospitality expected from a luxury resort. The biggest disappointment was the $125 per person dinner buffet. The food was often served cold, service was inconsistent, and the event itself felt disorganized. The open seating made it difficult to distinguish between paying guests and members of the public, creating an atmosphere that felt more like a community park barbecue than a carefully curated luxury dining experience. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a casual outdoor BBQ—but not at this price point or under the banner of a luxury resort. To make matters worse, the buffet even ran out of red wine during dinner service. The adults-only pool was another letdown. It was regularly occupied by loud, unsupervised children, making it impossible to enjoy the quiet, relaxing environment we had specifically sought. Throughout the property, children were climbing landscape trees and running freely through common areas without intervention. The grounds themselves also lacked the level of care we expected. Dirty dishes and glasses remained uncleared, landscaping appeared untended in places, and overall the resort felt less polished than advertised. Finally, while we are dog lovers ourselves, the property felt overrun with pets. Dogs were present throughout the restaurants and around the pool areas, which detracted from the refined atmosphere we were expecting. Charging $42 for valet parking only added to the sense that the pricing and overall experience were out of balance. Healdsburg is one of our favorite destinations, and we were genuinely excited to stay at the Appellation Healdsburg Inn. Unfortunately, the combination of understaffing, poor service, disappointing dining, overcrowded amenities, and a lack of attention to the guest experience left us feeling that the resort did not come close to delivering the luxury experience its pricing and reputation promise
