Great place to stay in Albany. Easy to reach, great location and great staff.

The check in experience was honestly one of the most confusing we've ever had. When we arrived, the staff member insisted that we had booked a shared dorm room, even though we showed him our booking confirmation, which clearly stated “basic double room private with shared bathroom.” Despite seeing the booking, he continued insisting that we had booked a shared dorm room. After going back and forth, he told us to go to the reception to sort it out. The reception was not even in the same building. The staff member had to put the address into our google maps, and we followed the directions. It took us around 10 minutes of driving to get there. We parked the car and searched for the building, only to find that the gate was locked and completely inaccessible. There was a sign saying, “No thoroughfare. Please call this number.” We called the number, only to find out that it was the same staff member who had just sent us all the way there. While speaking to him on the phone, he then told us that if we wanted the private room, we would need to pay an additional $7. This felt quite scummy, considering we had already paid for a private room and had shown him the booking confirmation stating exactly that. We firmly told him that we had already paid for the room and were not going to pay extra for something we had already booked. After yet another back and forth, he finally told us that we could return to Bayview Lodge because they actually had a private room available for us. He then said that he had checked the booking details and confirmed that we had in fact booked a private room all along. At that point we were honestly wondering why were we sent on a 10 mins drive to a different building, only to find it closed, call the same staff member, be asked to pay an extra $7, and then eventually be told that our original booking was correct? The entire process was unnecessarily stressful and confusing. It was already getting dark going to 6pm, and it was just the two of us girls travelling. We were genuinely worried that we might end up without a place to stay for the night. We’ve travelled and stayed in hostels and budget accommodations before, but we have never experienced a check in this disorganised. Even campgrounds have had clearer and smoother check in procedures. The accommodation itself may be fine, but the check in process was extremely poorly handled and caused us a lot of unnecessary stress. There needs to be much clearer communication between staff and a proper, straightforward check in system.
