41 - A Townhouse Hotel

A perfect blend of luxury and comfort. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a stress-free and memorable getaway. I look forward to returning soon!

I'll start with he positive: - Clean and mostly well maintained. - excellent location close to everything you'll need in Reykjavik including pick up points for excursions - Free coffee pods, bar downstairs with a discount for those staying -All linen / towels and bathroom/kitchen were very clean - Best shower ive ever used, gets hot straight away and incredibly strong pressure - Radiators heat up straight away, nice and toasty rooms. Neutral: - Can't really comment on staff as I didn't see any - kitchens are ok, they do what they need to but are rather small and limited. Negatives: - a big drain on my rating - The breakfast for €25 per person per day is honestly shocking for what you get: 1 bread roll, 1 croissant, small portion of butter a jam, a children's juice box and a piece of fruit with a small slither of cheese. I was kind of expecting a continental breakfast with eggs/bacon/sausage and other choices etc. didn't realise what the breakfast actually was until they emailed me with more details the day before I arrived. Very carb heavy and lots of sugar wasn't really what I was wanting, so I emailed in advance and asked if I could keep breakfast for my first morning but cancel and refund for the following days. I was told the room rate include breakfast (which it did...because I selected breakfast at checkout) but that it could not be refunded and I'd receive the breakfast regardless of whether I was going to consume it or not... I reiterated that they emailed me the day prior specifically stating that breakfast was a €25 per day ADD ON per person and advised it was too much sugar and carbs for what we wanted but they wouldn't budge and just reiterated that I couldn't have my money back. - The base level rooms are rather small compared to what we saw on the images, they are still quite nice but could do with some maintaining. The door handle kept coming off in the bathroom (I previous reviewer and already complained about this in the exact same room ***), the shelf holding all the glassware and table ware was about as straight as ***, will definitely collapse at some point. One of the clasps on the window was broken/not working properly. With how the hotel responded to my breakfast enquiry I didn't bother to report any of these we just put up with them. - Could get quite loud in room *** from passersby in the street as it's basically one of the main streets in Reykjavik centre. Not really the hotel's fault but something to consider

the rooms facing the street may have some noise issue, overall, a good place.

We spent a week here in July 2026.  We chose it because Iceland is very expensive, and we liked the idea of being able to cook breakfast and other meals in the room’s kitchen, rather than going out to restaurants every day.  The kitchen is functional, although there were no lids for the pots and no colander (we bought and donated one to the next guests).  However, everything else was a disappointment.  First, the hotel is located on the busiest shopping street in the city, which also has lots of bars and restaurants.  If you open the window, you will hear nothing but street noise and, as the evening progresses, more and more drunken revelry.  Since there’s no air conditioning in the room (and why would there be in Iceland?), you need to open the windows to keep it from getting too stuffy and hot.  Furthermore, street cleaning trucks drive down the street very slowly and loudly every morning at 6:30, so we never got a full night’s sleep.   In addition, the room we booked—a Deluxe Studio—is advertised on the hotel’s website with photos that show a seating area with comfortable chairs and a coffee table.  No such thing was in our room; indeed, it was too small to permit any more furniture.  Instead, we had a small wooden chair in a corner, and two more chairs around the dining area.  As a result, we had to spend all our time in the room sitting or lying in the bed.  As for the bed, although it is two twin beds with their own linen, there is no way to separate them even an inch, so you are effectively sleeping in a double bed.   The invisible staff (you can only contact them by phone or e-mail) doesn’t give any instructions on things like where to put trash, how to operate appliances, etc.  We had to repeatedly ask for soap for the dishwasher, and had to hope that the sugar packets would eventually be restocked in the common-area cabinets.  Worst of all, you need a code to enter the building, your floor and your room.  No one sent us this code before we arrived, so we spent nearly a half-hour outside the hotel with our luggage trying to get inside.  I had to ask someone if I could use their phone to call the hotel staff (I have a data SIM, but not one that allows phone calls in Iceland).  The staff told me I didn’t get a code before arrival because I booked through Expedia—however, they knew we were coming, and had my e-mail, so I would expect they would make it possible for us to enter the building without me having to hunt them down!   Ultimately, we saved money by cooking for ourselves some of the days.  Otherwise, it was a pretty miserable experience.
